The Wave
May 25, 2018
Our year is truly shaping up to be a great end to a quite simply, magical year.   The kids are having their last school meeting this afternoon, their last perspectives class - you can feel the pull of summer in the weather.  But, we have still much to accomplish.  This is the way that we have successfully ended the last 25 years of school. We are in it - to the very last moment!

******I can't express it enough, we need your kids at school each and every day.  They need the time with us to get their best work accomplished.  Please plan to make sure you end the school year strong by keeping your kids in school every day!

Next week:  3 day week.  Our teachers have many projects to grade on Friday for the upcoming report cards.

There is a Parent & Student Tea next Wednesday afternoon, which looks to be really a fun event!  A great thank you to the staff of TRCS who has been busily planning it together.

We also have a lottery on Thursday the 31st at 4:00 PM.  We will be unable to finalize our 2018/19 school list until Tuesday Morning.  We will be contacting all who have applied.  We will form our school list and also our wait list.

From a busy school to your homes - please enjoy this Memorial Day weekend together with your family.  A tent in the backyard is just as fun as a trip away.  Don't forget the simple things that bring you such great memories!

Attendance Notification
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year and we just want to remind all parents that our office needs to be notified when your student will miss or be late to school. We prefer an email to be sent to [email protected]. As a reminder, our office is not staffed until 8:00 am, therefore there is no one to take your call until after 8:00.

School Meeting!
We asked our students to find the 2 most memorable events of this school year. They have created a tableau and performed it at our Friday meeting. We have created pictures and words to display to you as you come to any of our events.  You can see what is precious to the students of TRCS. This is our culture and we want to always honor what the students hold dear about our school. Please enjoy and imagine what it would be like to be a student at TRCS - so much fun!

Tea For Ms. H
How do you say farewell to a friend? The TRCS staff have planned some pretty fun activities to honor and celebrate Ms. H on Wednesday afternoon and we sure hope you have it on your calendar to join us! The tea will be an open house format, so visitors can come and go as they please, but be sure to plan your time to be here at 3:45-4:15 because the teachers have a super fun game planned for everyone! We will have treats, a photo booth, a special opportunity to share a message with Ms. H, among other activities. We will be starting the festivities at 3:15, so please stop by and let Ms. H know how much she means to your family!
Monday is a Holiday!
The custom of honoring ancestors by cleaning cemeteries and decorating graves is an ancient and worldwide tradition, but the specific origin of Memorial Day, or Decoration Day as it was first known, are unclear.
Did you know:
* In early rural America, this duty was usually performed in late summer and was an occasion for family reunions and picnics.
* After the Civil War, America's need for a secular, patriotic ceremony to honor its military dead became prominent, as monuments to fallen soldiers were erected and dedicated, and ceremonies centering on the decoration of soldiers' graves were held in towns and cities throughout the nation.
* After World War I, the day expanded to honor those who have died in all American wars.
* No less than 25 places have been named in connection with the origin of Memorial Day, and states observed the holiday on different dates.
* In 1971, Memorial Day became a national holiday by an act of Congress; it is now celebrated on the last Monday in May.

Friday June 1, 2018
Next Friday, all of our teachers will be busy assessing the many Independent Projects - believe it or not, over 1000 of them!  We want to gaze at their amazing work, give it the time it deserves and give the kids a chance to improve them. This is a teacher work day, to get your kids projects OK'd for final or hand back for embellishments. This is so important that we take the time to stop and assess the work that has been done and give students the feedback and support to take their projects into the final week before the big night - IP NIGHT! On Thursday, June 7th, we all get the opportunity to honor the hard work of the past few months and celebrate the learning that has occurred!

Please be sure to email the teachers if your students are doing more than 1 hour for 4/5 and more than 1.5 -2 hours for 6/7/8 per night. We are giving plenty of in class work time for all of the projects.  Our afternoons for the coming weeks will be IP work times. Your kids should only have 20/30 minutes of literature and 20/30 minutes of math. These regular classes continue until the end of the year and IP work occurs during school. If your child "chooses" to work on their projects or are behind, and you believe it is excessive, that is the time that you contact us via email at  [email protected].  We want to make sure that this spring is healthy and happy all the way around.  Thank you for your part in helping with that.
