Help us pick the next public art piece!

How often have you walked by a statue or another piece of art in Golden and wondered who selected that? Well now, you can be a part of the selection process!

The Public Art Commission (PAC) is looking for the community's input in choosing the next piece of public art.  This art installation will serve as an entryway into the City on the west side of Hwy 93,  approximately 1,600 feet north of Pine Ridge Road.

The PAC narrowed the field down to the top three finalists, and now it's up to you to vote on the winner.

Visit  GuidingGolden.com to see renderings of the three proposed art installations, and vote on your favorite. Voting will be open through May 21.

We can't wait to see what you pick!

Keep reading for a rundown on what's happening in Golden right now, and have a great week!

Be an excavator at Magic Mountain!

Magic Mountain excavators
Experience nearby nature and Colorado history during an exciting hands-on community opportunity this summer. Dig into the work of Dr. Michele Koons, curator of archaeology, and her team at the archaeological site known as Magic Mountain just outside Golden.

Magic Mountain is one of the most important archaeological sites on Colorado's Front Range. The earliest artifacts date back to 5000 BCE, when the site would have served as camping grounds for mobile hunter-gatherer groups.

Although Magic Mountain has been previously explored by archaeologists, this project revives the excavation through a community-based effort that will likely lead to new science and discoveries. You can be a part of uncovering and sharing human-environmental history over the last 7,000 years, if not more!

The team is accepting applications for excavators through May 3. Learn more and sign up online.

Starting May 14, you will also be able to sign up for tours of the site. Learn more about the upcoming tours at www.dmns.org.

A Random Act of Kindness and "Backing the Blue"

You might have seen this sign at 19th and Washington over the weekend - a shout-out to our men and women in blue! According to Laura Woodworth, who helped organize the sign placement, "It took two months and lots of questions to find a place to give us permission for our sign. BIG thanks to First Baptist Church of Golden for being gracious enough to let us use their grass!" Laura also said she hopes the sign " encourages random acts  of kindness around our community. We have a great town for  something like that!"

Thanks Laura and all those involved in this show of support for our Golden Police Department!
