End-of-School-Year Concerts Are Music to Our Ears
Over the past several weeks, our students have dazzled us with their wonderful music performances.

To kick off the end-of-year concert season, our 5th graders took the stage. Most of these students began learning their instruments within the last four months. The strings as well as the combined woodwinds and brass classes each had their time on the stage playing many familiar tunes, such as "Ode to Joy," and "Au Claire de la Lune."

The next night, it was the chance for our  band, the Fairmont Beat, and our HAC orchestra to have their turns in the spotlight. The Fairmont Beat took the stage first and kicked off its set with "Believer" by Imagine Dragons. This performance was highlighted by a variety of vocalists taking their turns on various popular songs. But, undoubtedly, the crowd was amped by Elsa X. singing "Flashlight" by Sia.

After the Beat jazzed up the crowd, the orchestra took to the stage. The 30-member orchestra began its set with "Main Theme from Star Wars," which was definitely a crowd favorite. These talented musicians kept the set lively with "The Entertainer," and they finished off with their traditional spring closer, the ever-energetic "Can-Can."

To wrap up our concert season, our junior kindergarten and kindergarten students amazed the crowd with their all-American performance. Among the patriotic tributes were "The Star-Spangled Banner," "This Land Is Your Land," and "You're a Grand Old Flag."

It is always a joy to watch the musical abilities in our students shine. You cannot help but to be proud of all of the talents our students possess ---   both in and out of the classroom.

Trash Art Results
Fairmont Historic Anaheim art students took on the Muzeo Trash Artist Challenge together to show other students how to create a project using recycled materials that would ordinarily be thrown away.

HAC captured second place in the 6th to 8th grade division with the piece "Sixth-Grade Sustainable Studies Classroom." Congratulations to the following students: Penelope A., Annika J., Shea J., and Caitlyn M.

Their project, along with seven other projects created by Fairmont Historic Anaheim students, will be on display at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim until Monday, May 28. You will receive free admission if you inform the museum that you are from Fairmont and want to see the trash art entries.

Congrats to all of the artists who participated! Mrs. Gormin and all of us at HAC are so proud of all of your creativity and determination!

Students will be part of a fun and safe online community in which they can explore new books and share their favorites with friends. Additionally, they will step outside of their books with fun activities that might include exploring a book-tasting menu, going on an Amazing Literacy Race, solving a crime scene mystery, or using their critical-thinking skills to free themselves from an Escape Room. Activities will differ in each session, so students who want to double their fun can enroll in both sessions.

Students Create Masterpieces Out of Recycled Materials

Congratulations to our Fairmont Prep General Art students who took home first-, second-, and third-place awards for the high school category at the 10th annual Trash ARTist Challenge Expo on May 12. The purpose of the challenge is to recognize students' artistic reuse of recycled materials to promote the message of creative conservation and sustainability that relates to our lives today. The judges and organizers of the event were especially impressed with the social messages and thought that went into our student artwork.

The first-place award went to Nhi Pham, Vi Truong, Shucheng Zheng, and Yunru Peng for "Flying House" about having a safe place for children who face abuse all around the world. The second-place award went to Jingjing Zhang, Madison Calderon, Kofi Aboagye, and Justin Liu for "Am I Next?" which expresses concern for the issue of the gun violence and school shootings happening in the U.S. today. The third-place award went to Elenore Meagher, Audrey Kartika, Alessandro Furlong, and Milan Robinson for "Rubbish En Vogue," which challenges us to think more deeply about the public ideals regarding beauty.

Their projects, along with five other projects created by Fairmont Prep students, will be on display at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim until Monday, May 28. You will receive free admission if you inform the museum that you are from Fairmont and want to see the trash art entries.

Congrats to all of the artists who participated! Mrs. Soodak and all of us at Fairmont Prep are so proud of all of your creativity and teamwork!
