West Palm Mobility Plan Approved by City Commission

The West Palm Beach City Commission unanimously approved the Mobility Plan Monday night despite the packed chamber with a majority objecting to the plan.  The city adopted the plan without addressing the concerns raised by many in West Palm and surrounding communities.

Concord Hospitality just scored a $42 million construction loan to build a Marriott Autograph Collection brand hotel that will anchor the mixed-use project planned for West Palm Beach's former city hall.

Palm Beach officials, who have begun burying all overhead utilities in town, say they're gratified by Florida Power & Light's recent statement that underground electrical utilities performed well during Hurricane Irma. "We're being validated," said Steven Stern, the town's underground utilities program manager.

NOAA Issues 2018 Hurricane Season Forecast

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center has issued its 2018 hurricane forecast, calling for a near, or above normal, hurricane season with 10-16 named storms, 5-9 hurricanes and 1-4 major hurricanes of Cat 3 strength or higher. The average season has 12 named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes.

The Florida fund that helps private insurers pay out claims after a hurricane remains in good shape heading into a storm season. Despite losses from Hurricane Irma, estimates show the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund will have $17.3 billion available this year.
