Flags to Fly at Half-Staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day

AMARILLO, TX – The City of Amarillo will recognize Peace Officers Memorial Day on
Friday (May 15) by flying U.S. flags at half-staff.
Peace Officers Memorial Day, part of Police Week, honors those in law enforcement who have lost their lives in the line of duty – protecting the public.
“Amarillo will join the rest of the nation by honoring and remembering the countless men and women in law enforcement who have lost their lives to protect us,” said Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson. “We also pause to honor the police officers and law enforcement personnel who continue to risk their lives on a daily basis in order to keep their communities safe.”

B-1 Bomber Flyover Friday, May 15th at 11:21am
|

The U.S. Air Force’s American Resolve Salute to those at the forefront of the COVID-19 response is coming to Amarillo and Lubbock May 15! The 337th Test and Evaluation Squadron will be flying a B-1 Bomber over our Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center in Amarillo at 11:21 a.m. and then over the Lubbock VA Clinic at 11:40 a.m. The B-1 is assigned to Dyess AFB, located in Abilene, Texas, and is part of a regularly scheduled test sortie for the 337th.
The staff and Veterans in the Amarillo and Lubbock VA locations are excited to see the display of American might Friday! We ask all viewers to follow CDC recommended social distance guidelines and not gather in public groups to view the flyovers. #AirForceSalutes #AFFlyover

UPDATE: The safe harbor period for Paycheck Protection Program loans has been extended to Monday, May 18. This allows small businesses and nonprofits the opportunity to review and consider their good-faith certification. Borrowers do not need to apply for the extension.

Amarillo Matters Gives First $1,000 Prize to Local Business
|
|
|
|
Amarillo Matters has committed $25,000 to be given out over the next several weeks to encourage Amarillo residents to Shop Local!
Businesses must be locally owned, members of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, or the Amarillo Area Black Chamber of Commerce, and have less than 50 employees.
Each Monday, a participating business will be selected at random and awarded $1,000. The following Friday, one of the businesses' customers from the week will be selected at random to receive $500.
Businesses must complete the
online form
to be eligible.
