Dear Reader,

The idea for 7th Grade Revolution arrived in a Tweet linked to an article about a classroom lesson on the Revolutionary War. The teachers had told their 7th graders to imagine that they had won a bloodless war and now had to make the policies and govern the school. My head exploded with ideas. What if what started in the classroom somehow became real? The next thing I knew, I had the FBI trying to recover a Revolutionary War artifact of national importance hidden in the school, and the 7th grade on a wild ride through secret tunnels and caverns to beat them.

The students' mission is clear -- discover the treasure before the FBI closes their school. To stay ahead of the FBI, they must delve into history, follow century-old clues left by a crazy Revolutionary War buff, and amass an arsenal to defend their school ... because this is WAR!

Happy Reading,

Liana Gardner

Discussion questions:

1.   How do you think the 7th graders did with the classroom exercise the teachers assigned? Do you think you and your classmates would have handled the assignment any differently? If so, how?

2.   With challenge comes change. Which of the characters faced the biggest challenge? Did they overcome it? Who changed the most? What is the biggest challenge you've overcome?

3.   Dennis and Rhonda were on the fringes during the classroom experience. How did they become the leaders after the secret ballot vote?

4.   During the classroom exercise, James didn't want to be one of the leaders. Why? Have you ever felt the same way?

5.   What measures did the 7th graders take to keep the FBI at bay? Why were they successful?
