LAAC IN ACTION
COVID-19 Resources:

From everyone at LAAC, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during this time.

In case you find this helpful, here are just a few tips and resources:
  • Wash your hands! The CDC recommends you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. Generate hand washing infographics based on your favorite song lyrics by using this website

  • Working from home? This New York Times article has some helpful suggestions.
We are compiling COVID-19 Resources on LawHelpCA.org. We are particularly looking for new resources on housing, DV/IPV, family law, consumer issues, and medical coverage as the situation continues to change.

If your organization creates any new materials for the general public specific to COVID-19,  please send them to, Safia Kartoum, at  [email protected] .

If your organization is interested in connecting with other organizations about how to respond to client needs, email Salena Copeland, at [email protected], and she'll get you in the loop with others.

Day In Sacramento
Report-Back:

On March 9, 2020, LAAC convened our 3rd Annual Civil Legal Aid Day in Sacramento at the State Capitol. We coordinated and assembled over 30 attorneys and advocates from organizations across the state-from Sacramento down to San Diego that provide services for a variety of legal aid issue areas impacting low-income Californians, such as housing, child care, and public benefits.

Along with LAAC staff, volunteers met with 50 legislators or their staffers from both sides of the aisle, many of whom participate in caucuses and committees including Budget and Judiciary that make critical decisions implicating the work of legal aid organizations. We informed lawmakers about what legal aid does, how free legal services to low-income people in their region strengthens the safety net, and about ways to support the provision of legal aid to their constituents.

In mobilizing the legal aid community at Legal Aid Day in Sacramento, we were able to ensure that our legislators heard the legal aid community's collective voice!
