Having taught in the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health and practiced Integrative Medicine, both at GWU's Center for Integrative Medicine and Potomac Integrative Medicine, over the last 20 years, I have learned about both pandemics and relevant Integrative Medical treatments. With a nod to my brilliant mentor, Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, who is now seeing patients at one of the most heavily affected Covid-19 sites, Kirkland, Washington, and heartfelt thanks to the Harvard University School of Public Health Forum on Covid-19 and the School of Public Health at Washington University's research on coronavirus mitigation, I offer the following suggestions:

  1. Take off your shoes at home and keep worn clothes separate from clean clothes.
  2.  Clean the air in your environment on a routine basis.
  3.  Start a solid immune supplement protocol and infection treatment plan.
  4.  Reduce other immune stressors in your environment.
  5.  Make a plan for more intensive care and learn how to spot when a family member may need this type of care.
 
Notes on Suggestions

1. This novel virus can linger on some materials for up to 8 days and it fairly easily picked up from those materials during that time. Especially if you have little people at home who tend to not wear shoes, you must reduce as much as possible all contact with any material that could have been in contact with this virus (or other sources of bacteria, virus, parasite or fungal material), i.e., the outside world. Ideally you could change clothes on return to home from any outside trip.

 2.  There are several ways to clean the air and materials in your home, starting with sunshine and air flow.  In addition, an effective off-label use for a product, HOCL, which neutralizes 99% of conornavirus on contact, is to use it in a diffuser. This solution can also be sprayed on your face, hands and throat/mouth during the day, ideally after washing hands using the widely communicated recommended process. Leave in contact with sprayed surfaces for 10 minutes to achieve the maximum effect. Also, using Thyme essential oil or a propolis diffuser can help. Do not use all these diffused products at the same time, as some reduce other approaches' effectiveness. For the personal spray (on face, throat) use Briotech ( https://www.briotechusa.com/ ) and to make HOCL you can buy a home system for about $150 ( https://store.ecoloxtech.com/home-systems/ ). The Exolox system does not stabilize the HOCL solution so it will need to be used as soon as possible after being made. A general rule is to diffuse HOCL for 15 minutes every 2-3 days in each area of your living space. You can use a regular humidifier/diffusor with this solution.
 
3.    Given the wealth of research on herbal and nutrient effects on many viruses that share 97% of the genome with this novel virus, the creation of a "home remedy herbal kit" is likely to provide significant protection and/or mitigation of the effects of exposure to this pathogen. Some of the mechanisms of action of these herbal and nutrient substances are the same as the drugs under development now at the NIH (and academic medical centers) and in particular, they work in part by blocking the attachment site for viruses on lung tissue cells. Other mechanisms include clearing of infections by strengthening components of the immune system, reducing fluid build-up in the lungs, and interfering with virus replication. See the "Herbal and Nutrient Ordering Information" section below. The key products are CV-1, CV-2 from Fortify Health, and the products shown in the "Recommended Supplements and Dosing Schedule" section below.

4.   Other immune stressors include: emotional stress, electromagnetic stress, and other bio-toxins (mold and bacteria being primary). Ideally the emotional stress will be reduced by good sleep, exercise and family kindness; and maybe some yoga and walks in the park.  To address the electromagnetic stress (which can also directly increase your susceptibility to viruses and potential their virulence) please turn off all RF sources (routers and other wireless transmitter) unless being used; and keep your cell phone at least 9 inches from your body. And for the other sources of bio-toxins (bacteria, mold, other viruses), remove as possible all molded (water damaged) building materials and possessions, and de-clutter.
 
5.   My opinion is that if you can avoid the medical system during the next few months that would be wise. For more on why I think this, see the summary statement at the end of this note. However, there are some situations where you must go into the conventional health care system. To help with decision making on these issues, I will send out some comments and resources in the next week.

Summary Statement

In both conventional public health and naturopathic medicine circles we talk about "the big one" defined informally as the world event that is bigger than the 1918 pandemic and perhaps rivals the plague.  My best guess, based on official public health announcements as well as what is now known about this current infection's genome, is that this is not "the big one" yet.  But it is a really good early warning of the potential for a big or bigger one and reveals a range of issues we humans need to address. These issues range from clarity on personal responsibility for individual and community health status to world environment policy.

I have been asked to predict how long we will be under the force of this current viral stress and, of course, I do not know.  My strategy is to assume this will follow the path of the 1918 flu so we are looking at about 18 months, with a waxing and waning. With the social isolation directive, the "curve" of infection is flattened; this means the time of the risk of infection has in effect been extended.  This is good news in that our medical system is more likely to be strong enough to meet the projected extended demand going forward. It is bad news in that it means the "reign" of this novel virus will be longer. This means that we need to prepare for a longer exposure and it also may mean the chance of mutations in the virus is increased. These are unfamiliar concepts but do in themselves point to the interconnected nature of the world and all its life forms.

Given that we know a lot about the 97% of this "bug" that is coronavirus we can predict some of the medical effects at an individual level and, to some extent, the community level.  However, 3% of Covid-19 is not-corona, and is likely retro virus, which this makes projection on length of exposure and future effects of the current exposure less predictable.  It is for this reason that I suggest you maintain your home care plan for at least the year and arrange for on-going immune marker labs with your primary care providers on a consistent basis.

3.   How to find doctors in your area to provide more intensive treatment, if needed.
