Coconut Water and Electrolytes
By Susan Cutshaw M.S.
Coconut water comes from young green coconuts. Unflavored (pure) coconut water contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and electrolytes. It's the electrolytes and the low sugar content that make coconut water more attractive than most sports drinks. It even has more potassium than bananas.
8 ounces of coconut water contains;
  • 600 mg of potassium
  • 252 mg of sodium
  • 46 calories.
Compare this to 8 ounces of original Gatorade;
  • 30 mg of potassium
  • 107 mg of sodium and is
  • 80 calories.
One medium banana contains;
  • 422 mg of potassium
  • 1 mg of sodium
  • 105 calories
Many experts still recommend more traditional sports drinks rather than coconut water , although several studies suggest that coconut water is just as good if not better as a post-exercise drink. It's really about the taste and what feels right for you during or after an intense exercise session.

Americans generally do not get enough potassium in their diet, so coconut water may be beneficial for meeting potassium needs as well as general hydration.

Dog Safety Reminders dog in car
Please do not leave your animals in a parked car. This raises many questions and concerns among our membership when we are not able to locate the owner in the club.  As a result, the police may be called.  We certainly want both you and your pets to be healthy and safe.  Automobile temperatures can very quickly rise to dangerous levels; the average temperature increase in a parked car is 40 degrees, and the majority of this increase occurs in the first 15 to 30 minutes. When it's 80 degrees outside, your car will be a staggering 114 degrees, after 30 minutes! Worse still, dogs can't cool themselves down as easily as people, and once they overheat, they can suffer extensive organ damage or die.  We appreciate your attention to this matter.
Pool Safety Reminders life ring
Please remember children under 12 years of age must be supervised at the outdoor waterpark.  The lifeguards are working hard to maintain a safe environment and are diligent in responding to children having difficulty in the water. We want everyone to have fun and enjoy the pools, however we must ask that all parents and supervisors maintain a close eye on their children.

When the Liberty Lagoon is not life-guarded, children need to be 15 years of age or older to be without adult supervision.
