HYDE PARK, NY -- The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will present an author talk and book signing with PBS host and journalist Alexander Heffner -- coauthor of A DOCUMENTARY HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES -- on Thursday, June 21, 2018. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home. Following the presentation, Heffner will be available to sign copies of his book.

A DOCUMENTARY HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES
Synopsis
Here, in a single volume, are the documents, speeches, and letters that have forged American history, now updated with new content such as President Donald Trump's inaugural address. Accompanied by interpretations of their significance by noted historian Richard D. Heffner and journalist Alexander Heffner, this book includes important documents such as: The Declaration of Independence; The Constitution of the United States; The Monroe Doctrine; The Emancipation Proclamation; Woodrow  Wilson's War Message to Congress; Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Four Freedoms" Speech; John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address; Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" Speech; Ronald Reagan's Inaugural Addresses; and documents relating to September 11, 2001.
 
Alexander Heffner is the host of "The Open Mind" on PBS. He has covered American politics, civic life and Millennials since the 2008 presidential campaign. His work has been profiled in The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times, and on NBC News, MSNBC, C-SPAN, CNN, and BBC, among other media outlets. His essays, reviews and op-eds have appeared in TIME, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe and The Root, among other publications. He is a frequent lecturer and panel moderator at museums and institutions of learning. Heffner was the political director for WHRB 95.3 FM and host of "The Political Arena." A native New Yorker, he is a graduate of Andover and Harvard.
