Focus Group Opportunity

In early October, Service Year Alliance will be hosting focus groups with AmeriCorps members and program staff in Milwaukee to explore some pilot ideas to address members' housing and transportation needs. Service Year Alliance is an organization relentlessly pursuing a bold vision - making a year of paid, full-time service a common expectation and opportunity for all young Americans as a way to tackle important challenges while transforming their own lives. To attract big numbers of diverse corps members, Service Year Alliance works to increase the value proposition-the benefits and the incentives-for doing a service year that address real pain points and needs in the lives of corps members. Service Year Alliance is working with some of the largest national service programs across the country to explore some pilot ideas to address housing and transportation needs. Milwaukee is a target community and Service Year is interested in engaging Corps members and program staff to help them define the challenges and brainstorm solutions. Further details about date and time coming soon.

My students participated in a Mock Election debate. During this election process, students went through modules that simulated a real election cycle including a primary election, researching constituent needs, and developing school policies. By going through this process, students were able to develop their leadership skills and learn the election cycle process. As future voters, it is important for students to see the impact of their vote and what characteristics and skill-sets they need to look for in political officials.
