Dear Parents,

So here we are having completed two weeks of off-site learning. How are YOU doing? How are YOU managing in this storm? Yes, this IS a storm. This is not the new normal. When we find ourselves in a storm we hunker down; we don’t try to forge ahead.

This is a challenging, ABNORMAL time, and you are juggling an enormous range of responsibilities. Please take time to care for yourself. It is difficult as parents to practice self-care because WE are the caregivers. I hope that you are managing to take a quiet minute or two to take a deep breath and be reminded Jesus is in control and this storm will pass. You are strong and courageous and together we will manage.

You are being asked to do an extraordinary thing which is to support your child in their learning as you are at home working and caring for all the details of regular family life. Thank you for the excellent job that you are doing. Thank you for being such an excellent partner.

Rita Pierson, an amazing, compassionate educator has famously been quoted as saying:

Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.

You are your child’s champion. You are your child’s best hope in the world. As Christians, we know that our children are a gift to us, and that God calls us to raise them to know Him because ultimately, we know that HE is their best hope. He is their champion. I hope that you are able to redeem this crisis for good as you consider the gift of time that we are being given to re-imagine our priorities and values.

Next week I will share with you what assessment and reporting will look like during off-site learning. I will also be sharing some of the details of the Inquiry project that all of the Middle Campus students will be starting in a few weeks.

This week, if you are able, please send a short encouragement to your child’s homeroom teacher. They, like you, are working very hard to find the ‘just right’ balance for your child’s learning. Let them know how they are doing. Let them know if you need more support as well.

Thanks for being awesome!

Be well. Be strong. Be brave.
Jesus is on the throne.
