The Biggest Little City is slated to get its first taste of a quickly growing, tech-savvy boutique hotel concept that features breakfast pots and a robot butler.
The city of Reno accepted a permit application for an Aloft Hotel project near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The application involves an estimated $1.15 million in site preparation for grading, utility work, landscaping and pavement improvements.

Permits show that the four-story hotel will have 164 rooms and span 82,368 square feet. Reno-based Dianda Construction was listed as the contractor.

Aloft is a fast-growing boutique hotel brand under the Marriott International umbrella that especially targets millennial and business travelers. The concept features a highly stylized urban look with plenty of amenities as well as a heavy emphasis on technology and a social-friendly atmosphere.

Its name is a play on its loft-inspired design concept, which it plays up in its rooms by providing nine-foot ceilings and oversized windows. For its bathrooms, Aloft features amenities by New York City-based Bliss Spa, which runs several spas - and offers a line of beauty products. Aloft also has its own signature coffee.

Further catering to the millennial and Gen X clientele, Aloft properties feature a happy hour later in the day with designer cocktails and live music from local and emerging artists. For breakfast lovers, the hotel typically works with local chefs to create 13 varieties of its "Re:Fuel" portable breakfast pots, which usually cost $6.

Aloft also features several amenities for tech-savvy guests. In addition to wireless Internet service and its own app, Aloft properties also have emoji room service, with some providing voice-activated rooms as well. Aloft even boasts a 24/7 robot butler named Botlr, which can deliver towels, toiletries and other items that you request from room service.

The Reno Aloft is slated to be built on the corner of Plumb Lane and Terminal Way just north of the Hyatt Place Reno-Tahoe Airport near the freeway exit. Airports are a popular location for the boutique hotel brand. The first Aloft hotel was opened at the Montreal Airport in 2008.

There are now more than 90 Aloft hotel locations in the United States as the brand continues to see rapid expansion. The number increases to about 140 worldwide, with Aloft hotels also operating in Australia, China, Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Panama.
