OHS system review survey
As part of the ongoing government review of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, the province has released a survey for Albertans to fill out. We are encouraging all of our members to fill in the survey so they can have their opinions known by the government for this crucial piece of legislation.

NAIT offers a CSA recognized course for medical gas line installation. This course will prepare students to challenge the medical gas piping and systems installations certification exam.

The harmonization initiative
Since the Forum of Labour Market Ministers (FLMM) announced its strategic plan to harmonize 30 Red Seal trades in most jurisdictions by 2020, with an effort to harmonize training for two-thirds of Red Seal apprentices by 2017, the CCDA has made great progress.
The CCDA is proud to announce that the goal of harmonizing training for two-thirds of Red Seal apprentices by 2017 was met. Strong momentum and collaboration with industry across the country has resulted in the implementation of nine trades in most jurisdictions in September 2016, as well as in the implementation of nine additional trades in most jurisdictions in September 2017.
Work is also well underway to harmonize the next set of five trades by September 2018.
The CCDA would like to commend the strong collaboration between industry, training stakeholders and apprenticeship authorities who make the harmonization of apprenticeship training possible.

National skilled trades and technology week, November 5-11, 2017
Skills/Compétences Canada's plan is to work with its member organizations and partners to facilitate and host skilled trade and technology activities in regions across Canada, to engage business and political leaders in discussions about the importance of these careers for our country, to focus media attention on these careers and to highlight those individuals that pursued these paths themselves.
NSTTW is a key date in the annual Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) calendar. The goal of this week-long event is to promote and host awareness raising events around the many career opportunities in skilled trades and technology in Canada. During NSTTW organizations from across Canada get involved with SCC in a "hands-on" way to promote skilled trades and technology careers to youth, parents and the public.

Municipal Affairs has developed a user
guide
for Section 9.36. of the Alberta Building Code 2014 (ABC) in consultation with municipalities, industry and safety codes officers. This information is designed to assist code users for compliance with both prescriptive and performance paths under Section 9.36., ABC.
It provides code users with key considerations for submitting permit applications to the authority having jurisdiction, samples of a project summary and trade off calculations, clarification of code requirements for airtightness and checklists for energy code compliance under Section 9.36. of the ABC.
