ASMP Member Feature: Kenneth Wajda

As a 30-year professional photographer, Kenneth Wajda has a job he considers one of the best and genuinely a privilege to have. On any given day, Kenneth gets to photograph people and their world and create images that tell their stories, whether for a magazine or news article, advertisement or annual report. From his earliest days as a photojournalist--he started as a staff photographer in 1988 at  The Times of Trenton  in New Jersey's Capitol--he knew that what he gets to do as a photographer is something amazingly special. He realized the access he gets, and the history he sees and documents, is not to be approached with anything but the ultimate in respect, authenticity and dedication. In 2001, Kenneth moved to Colorado and now has commercial clients in the cable, military and biotech industry, editorial clients in Colorado, plus he works for a midwest-based marketing firm. His favorite photographs to make are portraits of people—to be able to create an image that reveals their story, captures their light as we get a glimpse into their world.  He says his goal is to create an iconic portrait of everyone I photograph . Kenneth makes environmental portraits on location and formal portraits in studio. He even uses film when he can. He said, "It’s imperative that their portrait captures something truthful about them. In fact, the best compliment I get is that my work looks real, and not like stock photography or current trends."

Teleconferencing Tips:

• As we've moved to virtual meetings on Zoom, Whererby, Webex, Google Hangouts and Skype, here are a few tips to put your best foot forward.

• Find a private space or use headphones to minimize background noise.

• Put the camera at eye level to make it look like you're talking to the person.

• Make sure your face is well lit with front lighting. Avoid backlighting.

• If you need to step away to look something up let everyone know you're doing that so they don't think the call was dropped.

• Check your desktop before sharing a screen to make sure there isn't private or sensitive information showing.

• Start your call early to test your camera and background.

• Have everyone introduce themselves.
