JUNE 2018 E-NEWSLETTER
A Message From Our President

Welcome to June and to the summer! I am always grateful to live in beautiful San Diego, but never more so than during our perfect summer weather. We will be kicking off June with our first  Family Beach Day  of the Year will be on Saturday, June 2nd, at  Moonlight Beach  in Encinitas. Then join us at the  Genius Weekend  from Mainly Mozart on June 8th-10th. This series of events celebrates the talents of people on the spectrum and includes a  Sensory Friendly Concert  with Julia from Sesame Street at the Balboa Theatre, as well as lectures and presentations, food and drinks, additional musical performances, and much more. Check out the link below for additional information and to purchase tickets to these great events.

If you are still looking for ways to fill up your child's summer break from school, there are still a few spaces left at Camp I CAN, our summer camp that we run each summer in conjunction with Toby Wells YMCA and Ecke YMCA. The link below will allow you to request registration forms for this fun summer camp program, but don't delay as these spots will go fast!

While most of our support groups will be on hiatus this month, our Family Pizza and Pool Party and our Family Gymnastics Night will still be held monthly all summer long! And we are also happy to announce that the All Ages Sensory Friendly Nights at PlayWerx in Carlsbad will now be held on the second Thursday of each month. Be sure to take advantage of these opportunities for inclusive family fun in a non judgemental atmosphere for all ages! We hope to see you at one of our events this month.

Thanks so much,
Amy  Munera

THANKS FOR PLAYING WITH US!

The first Autism-Friendly Sensory Playtime event at the La Mesa Library was a wonderful success! Our guests enjoyed the many activities the library staff prepared; from splashing in the water bin to building structures from a variety of sensory tools. We were also joined by our friends from SDSU discussing current research opportunities.
Sensory Playtime at the La Mesa Library is every first Sunday of the month at 11am ! We hope to see you there!
UPCOMING EVENTS FOR JUNE

Speakers and musicians will be featured in three Gaslamp Quarter venues adjacent to the Balboa Theatre. Interactive neuro-technology displays, special lunch menus, and specialty craft cocktails are all part of this afternoon of music-brain exploration. The day opens with a dress rehearsal of the Festival Orchestra at the Balboa Theatre and also features the SENSORY FRIENDLY CONCERT WITH JULIA.

Also on June 9th is the t his year's GENIUS NIGHT POST CONCERT PARTY honoring Nobel Laureate and Salk Institute President Emerita Elizabeth Blackburn. Following that evening's performance by the incomparable Michael Francis and the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra, walk from the Balboa Theatre to the Sparks Gallery and mingle with San Diego's tech geniuses, forty of the nation's top orchestral musicians, and researchers and academics in the field of autism. Tickets include admission to the party, as well as an "A" section ticket to the opening concert of the Festival Orchestra, featuring pianist Anne-Marie McDermott at the Balboa Theatre.
