Nurture & Care Report
PART 1 of a 2 part update from our
(Look for PART 2 in next week's Newsletter Update Edition.)
Greetings from the Nurture & Care Ministry Team:
We want to give you an update about our activities so far this calendar year.
* We have been working with Pastor Wendy and Vicki DeVol on a new computer attendance program.
* We arranged for the Lay Visitation training on May 20th with Pastor Sandy Kimbrow from Trinity.
* In the meantime, we have started contacting the team whenever there is information about one of our church family that has particular needs. Although communicating more has its own set of challenges, we believe more people knowing about each other and our needs is a good thing. We encourage all of you to "keep this team in the loop" with information. (Please see the list of names below)
* We have one trained Stephen's ministers on our team, Kathy Kleen, and she is providing a series of books - Journeying Through Grief - to those who lose a loved one.
* Sara keeps us informed about who is receiving a prayer shawl. Please let Sara know if there is anybody you think would appreciate one.
Tune in next week for
PART 2 of our Nurture & Care Team update...

Gifts of the Spirit
Spring Challenge - GREAT JOB!
Drum roll please...... we did it!!
Our total, as of this past Sunday, is $10,095. Congratulations, Morningside! Working together, everyone doing just a little bit extra, we exceeded out Spring Challenge goal.
Remember, those extra dollars stay right here to help continue outstanding educational programs, help keep our church facility shiny and well maintained and support our worship ministries.
Thanks to everyone who helped support this fundraising challenge.

Your Empties are Needed!
Let's make lemonade out of lemons, Morningside!
Knowing that most of us are affected by the
current water situation here in Salem AND concerned about having to use so many plastic water bottles, we've come up with a win-win for the situation.
Vacation Bible School is in need of empty water bottles for part of their activities during next month's VBS session here at Morningside. It would be greatly appreciated if you could bring your bag of empties bottles to church to support their activities. Any leftover water bottles will be donated to support the Open Door Churches Youth Program.
A WIN-WIN-WIN... thanks!

Vacation Bible School
Monday, July 9th through Thursday, July 12th
Morningside UMC
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
All kids from age 4 to 5th grade graduates are invited to four days of venturing onto an uncharted island where we will learn about how Jesus carries us through all of life's storms such as loneliness, struggles, feeling powerless, and worrying.
Each day as we sing, craft, snack and use our imaginations, we'll see how Jesus is always there for us!
Registration forms are available in the church hall on the Youth Bulletin Board and on the Facebook event page.
Volunteers are still needed, too! If you have a heart for kids and want to venture onto an uncharted island, too, call the church!

Signing Petitions - During Election Season
A quick reminder from our Church & Society Team...
During
this election season, you are likely to see people around with petitions for your to sign. Check them out! Ask Questions. Ask them for identification. Find out if they are paid petitioners.
We used to think that giving things a chance to get on the ballot was a good plan. However, some not so good ideas have slipped through. If you don't think it is a good idea or don't understand it, don't sign it.
Often, the group paying for signature gathering is an out of state corporation. Lets keep Oregon politics in Oregon.
