Principal Notes

Dear Parents,

We had a wonderful turnout for our parent presentation last week.  We were able to video the presenter and it is on our YouTube channel.  Here is the link. Thank you to those who attended, those who have already watched the video, and to PTO Program Planning for putting this event together.

The teachers will be putting their weekly Choose Love lessons in the class newsletters.  You can login to the official site  Choose Love and read the lessons so that you know what your child is learning.

The more informed that you are about what we are teaching, the better it is for our students. When we work together as a team our students benefit.

Have a wonderful week,
Jennifer

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

Before School
7:30 to 8:00 a.m. is the normal arrival time for students. Many working parents need to drop their children at an earlier time, so arrangements have been made for Falcon's Nest to be open in the morning from 6:30 to 7:40 a.m . Any child arriving before 7:30 a.m. will be sent to Falcon's Nest and a bill will be sent monthly.
School begins at 8:00 a.m. It is important that all students are in the classroom by the 8:00 a.m. bell. Parents driving their children to school are to enter the school grounds through the driveways on Holliston and drop their children off at the appropriate site. Parents are to pull their vehicles up as far as possible before releasing their children. Vehicles exiting onto Hill Avenue are to make a right turn only. Parents are not to park on Hill Avenue or Cordova Street to drop off or pick up their children before or after school. This is for everyone's safety. Please see the traffic plan sheet that is sent home in the August packet for details.

PTO NEWS
MESSAGE FROM THE PTO PRESIDENTS
A letter requesting sponsorship for the Fall Fest went home a few weeks ago which listed the different ways that you can help underwrite the event.  We hope that you will consider becoming a sponsor to help underwrite one of PTO's biggest fundraisers of the year.  For those of you who have committed to a sponsorship...thank you!  We appreciate the support.
We would like to take a moment to thank Diane McCullough & Susan Harden for coordinating the "Choose Love" speaker last Wednesday.  We were so excited to see so many parents in attendance to learn about the new addition to the school curriculum.  For those of you that missed it, Mr. W & Ms. Natalie were nice enough to record the event, and have posted it to the school's  YouTube station .  I hope that you will check it out, as it was both touching and informative.

Be sure to save the date of April 13, 2019 for the Red Tie Ball at the Castaways in Burbank.  The management of Castaways was nice enough to invite our Red Tie Ball Chairs, Kathleen & Shoshana, as well as  Maria & I to dinner there this past week.  We were able to sample the new menu in the newly renovated space, and it was amazing. So, mark your calendars now for what will be one of the best red tie balls St. Philip has ever hosted.

Speaking of auction, did you know that we offer St. Philip exclusives that can be bid on at the event?  Parents can bid on items such as: King & Queen of the Fall Fest, the front row at the Christmas Worship Service, and reserved parking for a year. The parking spot is reserved this year for the Bilac Family who supported our school with their generous purchase.  Please show your thanks by not parking in their spot.

MOVIE NIGHT
Ralph Breaks the Internet is coming out soon so join us in watching the original animated movie, Wreck-It Ralph, on Friday, October 5, in Holy Angels Hall, 6 - 9 pm.  See where it all began with Ralph, Vanellope, King Candy and Felix! Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the 5th grade Girl Scout Troop 9051. There will also be a raffle with cool movie items to win.  So bring a blanket and pillow, get comfy and enjoy a night at the movies.

See Flyer.

SPORTS BOOSTERS
Sports Boosters are in need of Fall sports photos for the Falcon sports kiosk. The kiosk is located outside Holy Angel Hall by the school lunch tables. If you have any photos of your children participating in Cross Country, Girl's Volleyball or Flag Football, and would like your athlete's photo in the kiosk, submit photos to Julie Schnieders via email at [email protected].

UNION STATION DINNER
Are you ready to do a really good deed and knock off your four parish hours in one fell swoop? Did you know that there are approximately 500 homeless people sleeping on the streets of Pasadena every night?  This is a great opportunity to help alleviate an on-going problem in our community, to personally provide a great example to your children, and to feel really good about yourself in a lasting way.

Consider preparing and serving dinner to the homeless of Pasadena on the fourth Sunday of the month.  St. Philip the Apostle School is looking for adult volunteers to purchase food (for which you will be reimbursed) and to lead six eighth graders in preparing and serving dinner to 60 homeless men and women at the Union Station Shelter on Raymond Avenue in Pasadena.  Service hours will count for either the school or the parish, whichever you prefer.
