A Season of Prayer
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope I that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Focus on HPC
What goes into a Worship Service?

Quite often we just show up for a Worship Service and sit back to evaluate what we are about to experience. Do we like the music? Do we like what the Preacher has to say? Is it too hot, too cold? How do the decisions get made that lead to the experience at hand each Sunday morning?

Typically the Minister and Worship Committee would work to bring together all the elements of the service, but without a Minister the work falls to the Worship Committee. First the committee seeks out someone to serve as Guest Preacher. This is done by contacting people on the Pulpit Supply list and inviting them. As we know, issuing an invitation does not always mean an acceptance especially if there are five Sundays to fill in one month.

This brings us to June 30, the fifth Sunday of this month. Ask as they might, Highland’s Worship Committee was unable to secure a preacher, so they looked “farther afield.” Ruling Elder Connie Buck stepped up and has organized a service to provide some “Food for Thought.” It may be unusual to have five Sundays in one month, but this does not make any of them any less important. Please make a special effort to be a part of this special service and perhaps discover nourishment for the soul as well as the body.
