Book Buyback
The Book Buyback for grades 2-5 will be held Friday, May 18, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Buyback for grades 6-12 will be Wednesday, May 23, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Students Elect New Officers
Several organizations recently elected officers for the 2018-19 school year.
Katie Anne Eastus will lead the Class of 2019 as Senior Class President.

The National Junior Honor Society recently elected
Mitchell Crow as President and
Henry Hopkins as Vice-President. Other officers will be elected when school resumes in the fall.

Shoreline Service:Students Groups Pitch In
Eighth and ninth grade members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) pitched in on April 21 to help clean-up Lakehill's adopted shoreline at White Rock Lake.
Members of Lower and Middle School Community Connections Clubs and their families, as well as the freshman class, followed up on May 8 for another Shoreline Spruce-Up.
Thanks to everyone who has helped maintain Lakehill's adopted shoreline over the past ten years (that's 120 lake clean-ups and more than 4,000 hours of service!). Lakehill's Community Connections campers will maintain the lake over the summer. Make plans to join us at the first Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-Up for 2018-19 on September 8, at 9 :00 a.m.

Funding Angels, Giving Hope
Lakehill's seventh and eighth grade students recently dispersed the funds they raised through their Powder Puff Football Game to their chosen charity.
The group presented a check for $895 to the Salvation Army Angel Tree
program.
On May 5, the freshmen class returned to Hope Supply Company, a non-profit organization that provides supplies for children experiencing homelessness. Diapers alone can cost a family more than $1,000 a year. Hope Supply Co. provides 40,000 diapers each week to help families in need.
Freshmen sorted and boxed 24,992 diapers which will be delivered to homeless families with young children.

Channeling Coachella
Lakehill third graders received a surprise visit (and dance lesson) today from Jamal Josef, Beyonce's Coachella choreographer and son of third grade teacher
Rochelle Rasheed.
After appearing this morning on
News 8 Daybreak, Jamal stopped in to share his experiences, answer questions, and lead the students in a fun brain break.

Sports Snippets
Varsity Track and Field
The Varsity Track team wrapped up its season last weekend with a high flying performance. The girls team finished 12th overall in the state. They were led by
Alanna Stern with a 3rd place finish in the 400m, and
Maddie Cerda with a 6th place performance in the Shot Put.
Jourdyn Owens,
Hayden Yoss,
Lynley Waggoner, Stern, and
Georgina Stephens performed well in the girls relays.
On the men’s side, the 4x200 relay (
Ben Palmer,
Jonah Shaw,
Gerard Franklin, and
Ryan Henry) placed 4th, with an all-star anchor leg run by Henry. "We couldn’t be more proud of this team and their efforts this season," said Head Coach
Devon Callens. Congratulations to the team on an outstanding season.

Varsity Crew
Lakehill rowers with Dallas United Crew had a fantastic showing at the Central Youth Championships on May 5-6 in Oklahoma City.
Junior
Connor Alexander earned the gold medal in the Varsity 4x, while sophomore
Anders Ekstrom took the bronze medal in the Men's Varsity 8. Seventh grader
Margaret Henderson earned a silver medal in both the Novice Women's 8 and the Novice Women's 4+.
The Central Youth Championships hosts nearly 1,000 athletes representing 385 crews from 19 teams from across Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arkansas, and Kansas. The 2,000-meter event is held at the USRowing National High Performance Center on the Oklahoma River.
Both Alexander and Ekstrom will now advance to the 2018 Youth National Championships, held June 8-10, 2018, on Lake Natoma in Gold River, California. The championships, which serve as the premier youth rowing event in the United States, see approximately 1,500 athletes competing in more than 350 crews, representing some 150 teams from across the country – all vying for national titles in 18 boat classes.
Congratulations to our rowers on a great season, and good luck at Nationals!
