Estrellas Sirius
Our Spanish dual language immersion program officially has its own name: Estrellas Sirius. Meaning "brightest star," the name voted on by our inaugural class of immersion students coming from La Academia. Our immersion program is a
"school within a school". Students take two courses in Spanish, Expresiones and Social Studies. The remainder of their classes are taught in English and the students are integrated with the other West students.

Thank you Parents!
Thank you to our PTO and the rest of our parents for a fantastic Staff Appreciation Week. The luncheon and snack cart were much appreciated. We were all literally treated like STARS! Thank you for your support throughout the year, chaperoning on field trips, helping in classes or donating food and/or gift cards. We appreciate all that you do to support staff and students at CMSW.

Year-End Celebrations
Our end of the year is packed full of celebrations honoring our students and thanking them for a fantastic year. June 7th is our last student day and teachers have been extremely busy planning fun, action packed days for your children. In addition, we invite parents to our 6th grade Toy Company on May 31st to see the cleaver games and toys they've created. May 31st is also our 8th grade celebration day. It is bittersweet. What a joy it has been to work with your children these past three years. We wish them luck and success in their high school careers.

Items of Interest

Yearbook distribution will be this Friday, May 25th during Advisory for students who pre-ordered one. Extra yearbooks were ordered and will be on sale in the Main Office after attendance is taken in Advisory on Friday.  They will be sold in the office for $25 cash or checks made out to CMSW.

8th Gra de Celebration
On Thursday, May 31st we will be celebrating the middle school accomplishments of our 8th grade class before they depart for High School. All 8th Grade students will be able to participate in activities and enjoy time with friends and teachers while eating ice cream and other treats.

6th Grade Toy Company
Students have been working collaboratively to create and market a new toy.
They have created presentations, prototypes, and a final trifold board. Students will share their products at the year end Trade Show on Thursday, May 31st from 2:30 - 3:15 pm. 6th grade parents are invited to attend.

Ed Camp for 6th Graders
Students will choose from a variety of options to explore different topics on Monday, June 4th .  Options will be presented to students the Friday before and they will create their schedule for Monday. Students should prepare for an active day of fun and learning. Ask your child about what they signed up for so they arrive with required materials on Monday morning.

Successful Fundraiser Allows Beneficial Purchases
Again, thank you to all of the families who participated in the Evening with the Stars fundraiser back in March. The total raised was $7,000 which led to purchases benefiting CMSW in many areas. Here is a list of some of the approved purchases to date: basketballs and volleyballs, 360° camera and tripod, flip cameras, science lab stools, furniture for personalized learning spaces, MIDI keyboards for the music department, adjustable height desks, lounge updates, gift cards for the PRIDE program, and fetal pigs for science. We all appreciate your generosity and our wonderful PTO for organizing it!

District News

Summer 2018 Chromebook Information
Students in grades three through eleven who were issued a Chromebook this year will be allowed to take their Chromebook home for the summer. During that time they will be responsible for taking care of their district-issued device.  If a family does not want their child to have the Chromebook over the summer, the student must return the Chromebook and charger to their school's media center before leaving for the summer. When school resumes in the fall, the same Chromebook and charger will be returned to the student during the first week of school. If your child plans to take their Chromebook home for the summer, consider a   Protection Plan to reduce or eliminate potential fees (chargers are not covered by the protection plan) from accidental loss or damage. Read more HERE .

Bus Information on Campus Portal this summer for the 2018-19 school year
Bus schedules for the upcoming school year will be posted online on your child's Campus Portal account in late July. With the exception of Special Education students, no letters will be mailed to student homes. Transportation forms and important information for the next school year will be posted on the Transportation webpage .

The first day of school for grades 2-12 is Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018. Kindergarten and 1st grades start on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018.
