Assistant Band Director Published
|
Lovejoy High School Assistant Band Director Daniel King arranged a piece for the top band to play this year at UIL and throughout the concert season. With encouragement from his colleagues, Daniel submitted the piece to a publisher. Alfred Music is publishing the piece, which will be included in their top tier catalog for upper level (and more expensive) pieces.
Additionally, at the top of this now internationally sold piece of music, it will read "Transcribed for the Lovejoy High School Wind Symphony, Paul Heuer, Director".
Daniel also received a call from Robert Sheldon, a band composer. Mr. Sheldon was very impressed with the piece and the recording of Lovejoy's top band.
We are #lovejoyproud.

A Year Filled with Successes
Dear Lovejoy Community:
It is hard to believe next week is the last week of the 2017-2018 school year. To describe the individual and group successes of our students would require a very long email. A few highlights of the academic program this year include:
- Lovejoy High School continues to be ranked in the top 1% of high schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
- Willow Springs Middle School is ranked 10th, or better than 99.5%, of 1,998 Texas Middle Schools by SchoolDigger.
- The Lovejoy High School visual arts program continues to have its student work selected to be a part of the Dallas Museum of Art Young Master's exhibit.
- The Lovejoy music programs continue to win Sweepstakes awards in the UIL competitions.
- Lovejoy ISD continues to succeed in UIL Academic Competitions, Speech & Debate, Chess, and UIL Computer Science. Our Computer Science team placed 2nd at the State competition this year.
- Lovejoy recently honored 274 AP Scholars, 22 of whom were National AP Scholars who took and passed at least eight AP exams with an average score of 4.0.
- And many, many team and individual awards and accomplishments in our K-8 programs.
It has truly been a year filled with successes. In addition to these achievements, every student should be extremely proud of his/her work each day. Our students put forth their best efforts in the classroom, are willing to ask questions and seek additional help when needed, collaborate to help other students, and are actively involved in numerous additional pursuits. These are all hallmarks of the academic traditions established by the students and supported by parents, teachers, and community members in Lovejoy. All of this, and so much more, makes me proud to serve Lovejoy ISD.
I wish each of you a safe and enjoyable summer.
Respectfully,
Dennis Muizers
Deputy Superintendent

Important News From Student Nutrition
Regarding Change in Student Meal Accounts
In an effort to help minimize negative balances at the end of the school year, students will no longer be able to charge meals which result in the student incurring a negative meal account balance. Students may continue to use their lunch accounts as long as they have a positive meal account balance. Households with students who currently have negative balances will receive reminder emails and phone calls. Federal regulations prohibit us from rolling over negative balances to the next school year. Please arrange to remit payment for any negative balances your child may have incurred.
All positive balances will be rolled over to next school year. If you have a graduating senior, funds may be transferred to any sibling in the school district. To request a meal account refund, please complete a refund request form, located on the
Student Nutrition website
. For assistance, please contact us at 469.742.8041
.
The Department of Student Nutrition Services thanks you for your understanding and for allowing us to serve your student(s) this school year.

Safety and Security
Safety and security remain our highest priorities. We have specific plans at each campus in response to a security breach. We continue to consider additional measures to address both the perception of safety, as well as the actual safety on every campus.
We would like to ask for your assistance. If you have information about a threat to the safety of a student, staff member, campus, or the district, we ask you to report it.
SafeSchools is our online safety compliance program, which is specifically designed for school use, incident management, and bullying reporting. This program allows students, staff, and parents to report tips on bullying, harassment, intimidation, weapons, drugs, or other threats to school safety by e-mail, via website, text, or by calling 469.919.5861. This system allows us to stay connected and to prevent incidents before they occur. Staff are immediately notified of every tip, and can effectively track and manage incidents to resolution in this web-based system. Multiple administrators throughout the district monitor submissions to assure entries are addressed in a timely manner. Once a tip is entered, tipsters can easily check on the status of their tip and remain anonymous. School officials are notified through e-mail when tips are created and/or updated.
Posters are displayed in every classroom and hallways throughout each of the Lovejoy campuses, providing information as to how to enter a tip.
If you have information about a threat to our safety, do your part and report it. Please remember, you may remain anonymous.
As always, your questions, concerns, and suggestions regarding school security are welcome. Please email, text or call me with your thoughts. My cell number is 972.415.8129.
