Peer Mentoring Found to Be Effective for People With Serious Mental Illness

Being paired with a person who is willing to share stories of their recovery from serious mental illness and provide coaching and encouragement may lead patients with serious mental illness to experience greater improvements in psychiatric symptoms and functioning than those who receive standard care only, according to an April 2018  study  published in
Psychiatric Services in Advance.

"This study provides evidence in support of theories and emerging research that peers may play uniquely beneficial roles in connecting with individuals who may be difficult to engage or less responsive to traditional outpatient care," wrote Maria O'Connell, Ph.D., of Yale University School of Medicine and colleagues.

Becoming a Health-e-Arizona Plus Community Partner

Health-e-Arizona Plus (HEAplus) is Arizona's online application system for AHCCCS Medical Assistance, Cash and Nutrition Assistance. Arizona families can apply, renew and report changes online at  www.healthearizonaplus.gov   or visit a HEAplus Community Partner for assistance.
HEAplus offers features that insure personal information is kept safe and secure and utilizes electronic information to verify many eligibility factors. Applicants who do not qualify for Medicaid will be connected to the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace (FFM) where they may qualify for premium tax credits and cost sharing reductions.

With the upcoming changes on October 1st, 2018 - be sure AHCCCS members have accurate and updated addresses in their files.
