Dear People of St. Francis

I am so incredibly honored and blessed to be called as your new rector. Two weeks ago, I finished the Camino de Santiago, which is an 800-year old pilgrimage that runs across northern Spain. Before I left, I asked for a copy of your parish directory. I carried it with me on my journey and prayed for each of you by name nearly every day. So, I know your names, and now, I am looking forward to getting to know each of you.

I hope to meet some of you on Saturday morning at the Patio Sale. I’m hoping to be there until around 10:00 am, before I head to St. John the Baptist for the ordination of a new priests and three new deacons in the diocese. While I do not start at St. Francis until Monday, August 12, I hope to start meeting with many of you and attending events when it is possible. Ultimately, I hope to have a chance to meet individually with each of you. I want to hear your stories, your hopes and your dreams for St. Francis.

Over the next three weeks, I will be finishing up as the Rector at St. Stephen’s in downtown Portland, where I have served for the last two years. Prior to St. Stephen’s, I had a 20-year business career in which I was a corporate lawyer, company executive and investment banker. I live in NW Portland with my wife Spitzi, who is an oncology nurse, and our daughter Katie, who is a junior at the Catlin-Gabel School. We also have 20-year old twins, Jack and Annie, who are off at college. Both of them are taking classes this summer. Jack is a junior at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and Annie s a junior at Northeastern University in Boston. I look forward to introducing them all to you.

I am incredibly excited by the ways in which I see us all working together to seek and serve Christ in all people. We have a message of hope and love that the world so desperately needs.

In Christ,
Brendan Barnicle
