Energy & Engineering Students
Experiment with Makey-Makeys

Last week, Foundations of Energy and Engineering students experimented with Makey-Makeys to explore concepts such as circuitry, game design, and computer program. They are expanding these into bigger projects in their class periods, where they are composing songs, games, or circuits to be used with their Makey-Makeys instead of the computer keyboards. This is a great and fun example of student-led innovation in the midst of high-focus testing priorities in core classes.

MP Profile
Meet Sara Gassett.   This is her 15th year as an English teacher at MP. What is the best part about her job? "The relationships I build with my students." In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and hiking. If she could go back in time, she would go back to 1976 - "I graduated from high school, and  I would become an airline stewardess and travel more before I started teaching." When asked what she would do with the extra time if she did not have to sleep, she said "travel, cook, and read."  When people come to her for help, they usually need help with writing and grammar.  She said that Jesus Christ, her parents, and her 1st grade teacher have influenced her life the most. What keeps her up at night? - "worrying about those I love." One of her favorite moments was when she got to meet Tim Tebow.

The FAFSA® is the application that students must complete to apply for federal student aid, which can be used to attend an eligible college or career school. Federal student aid includes Federal Pell Grants, federal student loans, and work-study opportunities. In addition to determining eligibility for federal student aid, many states, private organizations, colleges, and career schools rely on information from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for nonfederal sources of aid.

ALL students must complete this form regardless of parent income.

Beta Club recently conducted a Canned Food Drive, spearheaded by Audrey Parrott. Canned Food Drives are usually conducted in the Fall, but donations are needed all year long, which is the reason for this drive. The 5th period class that turned in the most cans were treated to a Pizza Lunch!

Ms. Rowland's 5th period class turned in 211 cans, followed by Mr. Hernandez's class which turned in 200 cans, and Mr. Bernard's class turned in 160 cans.  A total of 672 cans were collected and donated to the Forsyth United Methodist Church, for their Food Bank. Thank you to all who contributed to this worthy cause!
