Temptations
In the gospel, it is written that Jesus was tempted by the devil three times during his forty days and forty nights in the desert. Each temptation increased in greed and value. Still, Jesus refused to give in to temptation. Jesus believed in the writings of God too much to let him give in to the devil. Jesus was rewarded and Angels came to him to show his faith in God was not misplaced.
People are often tempted in life and give in to it. They give in to temptation because they don’t have a belief to say otherwise.
I learned that I can also turn down temptation. I choose to make the right decisions. My faith helps me to make decisions that brings me closer to God. My faith guides me to help the people around me to avoid temptation. I am there for them to show that there is always someone for them and they are not alone.
It is my belief that through my faith and guidance of God, I will be able to refute temptation and will be there for others on the same journey.

Preparing for Lent
Lent is not merely a preparation for Easter. As we travel this journey, let us make this Lent a time of openness to God's love in our lives and to receive His blessings and to feel His presence. This is a time to change our hearts and make us more like Jesus. Let us try to keep our hearts open to the Lord, because that's when changes happen. God wants His peace to rule us and through us, we can touch everyone around us. This is something we all should strive to do each and every day.
Lenten Fish Dinners
Blessed Sacrament / St. Vincent’s Lenten Fish Fry has begun! Enjoy a delicious fish fry every Friday (except Good Friday) in the Blessed Sacrament school cafeteria at 3129 James St. Eat in or take out available from 4:30pm - 7pm.
Have you ever attended the dinners which are held on Ash Wednesday and Fridays from 4:30-7PM during Lent? This is a great fundraiser and community builder for the two parishes, and we are appealing for financial donations to offset some of the upfront ordering costs.
For example: 1 case of French fries - $25 (30 cases needed); 1 case of ketchup - $25 (20 cases needed); 3 gallons of cooking oil - $30 (18 gallons needed); 1 gallon coleslaw dressing - $14 (12 gallons needed); 1 case macaroni - $25 (25 cases needed); 1 case of take out containers - $20 (16 cases needed). Any financial help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please place your donation in an envelope labeled "Attention: Fish Dinners" in the church collection basket or mail to: Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James St., Syracuse, NY 13206.
Rice Bowls
During Lent our community will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that invites us to reflect on the challenges of global hunger-and our responsibility to respond to the needs of our global human family. We will be reminded through the Gospel story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 that if we commit to sharing what we have with those in need, trusting in God's abundance, there is more than enough to feed everyone. Through our Lenten prayers, fasting and almsgiving, we can respond to the call to ensure that all our brothers and sisters are fed good, nutritious food that gives them what they need to fulfill their God-given potential. In so doing, we pledge to stand alongside these members of our human family, supporting them as the Gospel calls us to do. Use your CRS Rice Bowl and Lenten Calendar daily to guide your prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Prepare simple, meatless meals on the Fridays of Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world. We will collect your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent, so stay tuned to learn more. Thank you for participating in CRS Rice Bowl.
