E-News for May 23, 2018
From Our Pastor
On July 1, 2012, I was appointed to serve as Senior Pastor of New World UMC. A number of things excited me about this new appointment. One of them was hearing that Mary Kathryn Nader served on the church staff as Director of Young Adult and College Ministries! I knew as well that Rev. Joseph Nader served as the Director of Wesley Foundation at UTA, and the Nader family was active in my new congregation! You see, Kathy and I and our children have a long history with the Nader family. Joseph’s brother, John, had served on my staff as Youth Director and he happened to be Susan’s favorite youth director! Our association with the Nader family has other connections, but I’ll stop there.

In the United Methodist ministry we have a lot of moving and much grieving! That is why our church is very excited that Joseph is preaching at New World UMC one last time this Sunday, May 27 th, at 8:15, 9:30, and 10:50 services!  A reception for the Nader’s will follow the 10:50 service in our Fellowship Hall.

Let’s give this wonderful family a great New World family send off to Joseph’s new ministry as the Senior Pastor of First UMC in Weatherford!
In Jesus’ love,
Pastor Mike
Farewell Receptions
As Pastor Mike mentioned in his article above, this Sunday, May 27, there will be a an opportunity to say goodbye to the Nader family. Please stop by the Fellowship Hall at noon to wish Joseph, Mary Kathryn, Lydia and J.J. well at a reception in their honor.

Sunday, June 3rd, will be John Cash's last Sunday at New World after only 40 years of membership! John, who is turning 95, is moving to Florida to live with his family there. Join us in the Coffee Bar June 3, 9:00 - 9:30 am, to send John off with our love and best wishes.
Blood Donors
Mark Your Calendar
Our next Blood Drive is Sunday, June 10, from 8:30 am-12:30 pm in our Fellowship Hall. Please mark that date on your calendar. Kathy Goodell and Mary Ann Kelly will be in the Concourse to help make appointments this Sunday, and, if needed, June 3. Helping someone who desperately needs blood to live is a great way to give thanks for our own good health. Donors in our drive will be rewarded with a Ranger T-shirt and a Buy-One-Get One Ranger Ticket Voucher. Thanks in advance for your participation.

Project Transformation
Children’s Books & Classroom Supply Drive
May 24-June 9
As we begin our second summer as a Partner Church for Project Transformation Central Texas, it is time to jump in and support this important church-wide mission project! Starting on May 24, you can bring donations of gently used children’s books, school & classroom supplies, and non perishable foods to our  fun, college-themed  donation drive in the concourse. Here’s a link to Project Transformation’s wish list:  https://projecttransformation.org/central-texas/get-involved/donate/wish-list/

What is Project Transformation?
Project Transformation Central Texas is a summer literacy and day camp program for underserved elementary students in Tarrant County. College Interns who are exploring calls for ministry run the day-to-day operations of Project Transformation at local United Methodist host churches. Volunteers from Host Churches and Partner Churches support the ministry. For more information about PT, you can go to  https://projecttransformation.org/central-texas /

What do we do as a Partner Church?
As a partner church, we support Project Transformation’s First UMC Bedford location by helping to provide prayers, donations, books, supplies, weekend food for families, occasional dinners for college interns, and lots of volunteers to sit one-on-one with students as they read. We also sponsor a specific intern who is assigned to our church (details coming soon!)

How can you get involved?
Three ways you can get involved right away:
  1. Pray for the interns, churches, children and their families.
  2. Begin collecting new and gently used children’s books, school and classroom supplies, and nonperishable foods for the program. We will have a fun & competitive collection drive at the church May 24-June 9.
  3. Get set to volunteer! If you want to volunteer this summer, be sure that your Ministry Safe status is up-to-date. The next MinistrySafe Training is Sunday, June 10 at 12PM.

Shackelford Junior High Choir Concert
On Tuesday, May 22, New World hosted the Shackelford Choir spring concert. What an incredible opportunity to open our church to the 150 choir kids and over 400 of their family and friends.

Student Ministry – Is God calling you to try volunteering with Children and Youth?

The countdown is on – just a few days left until Summer Vacation! This summer will be a fun-filled time for New World Student Ministry, including a choir tour to New Orleans, mission trip to Caldwell, Texas, and 17 other opportunities to volunteer in local mission projects! All of this in addition to Sunday nights of fellowship and welcoming our newest confirmands to youth group! We have a wonderful, active group of young people here at New World.

All of this ministry takes caring adult volunteers to make it happen. If you are already a MinistrySafe trained adult, please take a minute to go to our SignUp Genius calendar to see if there might be a place where you can donate a couple of hours of your time this summer. No experience necessary! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0b4fafa929abff2-newworld

My Prayer

Father God, we thank You that You never ask us to take on or endure anything that You will not equip us to do.
We thank You that You stand in the trenches with us. You swim with us in the flood waters. You hold us as we tremble, and You calm us as we rage.
We thank You that You celebrate our achievements, and lift us up when we fail.
We are blessed to have so many freedoms that we know we don’t deserve, and frequently take for granted.
Forgive us for the liberties we have taken with Your word.
Forgive us that we have failed to uphold the great commandment, even when we are in Your house.
Bless us, Father, with clarity of mind to make the right choices concerning the health and well being of New World.
Bless us, Father, with wisdom to discern what is valuable to our shared walk, and what is detrimental to our spirit and our relationships.
Change our vision, God, to Your vision, our words to Your words, and break our hearts so that we might start again with the love that You have graciously given us to share with one another.
Father, please be present with us. Come close, oh Lord. Be near us, among us, within us. Let us see You in each other’s eyes. Let us do better. Make us do better!
Father, help us follow the forthcoming good guidance as a family, so that we can make the important changes we need to make .
Help us Lord to be brave enough to exhaust every resource You have given us, so that we can be Your true disciples. Help us to not continue to travel the road that leads to our demise.
We need You. We love You.
Forgive us. Lead us. Unite us, Lord.
Take away our pretense, and make us Your authentic followers in Jesus’ name Amen
