Co-President's Message

As I write this article, the concern with respect to the CO VID-19 situation is changing by the hour. Impact 100 RC lead ership is concerned that we not place our members, guests and others at risk.
Based on the recommendation of the CA Dept. of Public Health, we have decided to
postpone in-person events through the end of March.
This includes the March 14 NextGen Hike and the March 19 C&C at Mary's Pizza.  The March 26 Task Force Update will be held via phone (see below). We also discourage in-person committee meetings in March.

On a more positive note we know that many of you have been keeping a keen ear out for possible venues to accommodate our rapidly-growing membership. We recently received a lovely offer of a venue that could coincide with a special event. It would have been a memorable experience. Despite the strong temptation to gratefully accept, we had to decline.

Our governance documents place strict limitation on using venues of those non profits that are not a recent grant winner...and with good reason. We just can't play fav orites or appear in any way to the non profit community to have a conflict-of-in terest. While it is absolutely true that this governance directive does challenge our event committee to find venues for events such as the summer social, by adhering to this regulation we keep our good reputation as an objective and fair-minded grant organization in the community.

The selection of Community grant winners is coming up quickly! This is everyone's opportunity to make your voice heard in our selection process. Our previous grant winners have been very inspiring. I am excited as I hope you are to cast a vote in this election.

As always, we encourage you to keep the channels of communication with us open with your questions and thoughts regarding our Impact 100 RC chapter to [email protected]

Impact 100 RC Grant Task Force
Update on TH, March 26th, 4:30 - 6:00 via phone conference

2020 marks five years since Impact 100 RC was formed, began distributing grants, and grew to over 200 members!  In fact, we have $205,000 available to grant in 2020. As a result, the Leadership Team decided to review our processes and policies to determine if any changes are needed.

The Leadership Team created a Task Force whose mission was to review these processes. After soliciting the
Current total of grants given
membership for volunteers, the Task Force is comprised of members of the current Impact Grant and Community Grants Committees and members-at-large.

The Task Force reviewed the following:
  • Processes of the other 60 Impact 100 Chapters around the US
  • Best practices with staff of the Community Foundation
  • Sectors, or focus areas, and how we utilize those in grant selection
  • Options for distribution of funds as we grow
The Task Force has completed its work. We would like to preview this information with interested members.  At this meeting, task force members will preview their recommended changes to the Community and Impact Grant processes. A ratification vote will be conducted for all members in March.

There will be a virtual presentation (in lieu of an in-person meeting) of the Task Force recommendations based on their review of our grants and policies on Thursday, March 26 from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.

To receive the call-in information, please RSVP to [email protected] by March
20th.
Community Grants Committee
Exciting News for 2020!

At the March 10th Leadership Team Meeting, it was decided that we will be giving out eight $10,000 Community Grants in 2020!!

The Community Grants Committee is in the middle of reviewing the grant applications. Here's an update with numbers:
  • Impact 100 RC members nominated 54 NPO's
  • 45 NPO's applied for a Community Grant
  • 38 grant applications (vs. 26 last year) passed the vetting process and were deemed eligible for consideration of a grant
We receive applications from five focus areas: Arts/Culture, Environment, Health, Education and Human Services.  This year 17 (45%) of the applications were for education, 7 (18%) in Human Services, 5 (13%) in Health, 4 (11%) in Arts and 5 (13%) in Environment.

Updates From Our Grantees
Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities is excited to announce the reopening of the garden at our Family Support Center. Cultivating healthy habits is one of the most important ways that a community can support the development of its children and one of the most rewarding ways to accomplish this is to grow fresh, nutritious food alongside families whose circumstances make it more difficult for them to obtain healthy meals.

To kick-off this exciting project, we are looking for volunteers to prepare the garden for spring planting on Saturday, March 21st and Sunday, March 29th. Interested members can sign up for either of the work days  HERE :   https://volunteersignup.org/D8KRT

Leadership Team Needs Your Help!
How to Contact Your Leadership Team, Your Committees
& Provide RSVPs to Events

Impact 100 RC has 10 hard-working committees and we love hearing from you!  We also want to make sure your email is headed in the right direction!

Our Co-presidents, the Executive (Leadership) Team and each committee have their own email address (listed below). When you send an email to a committee email address, all members of the committee get the information. This is good, because we often handle multiple jobs and it keeps us all informed!

As we continue to refine and improve our communications tools, please take a look at these addresses and try to use them in your communications. If you have questions, please contact the executive committee at: [email protected]

Events Committee
Please Remember to RSVP for Events!

The February membership meeting was well attended and informative. Thanks to all who came!   We had 125 members and guests.  We have a new venue for the next membership meeting - Sonoma Country Day School. The meeting will be held at the Jackson Theater on May 21, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm.

Going forward, we want to inform you that the need for RSVP's to our events is very important (especially our membership meetings!) At the Feb 12 meeting, we had 24 no-shows, at a cost of $25 per person (or $600).   All event venues require a head-count at least 2-3 days before the event. Although our event's committee tries to balance no-shows with last-minute attendees, it is something we should all keep in mind and help them with!
