Keynote Speaker: TIM CLUE

Long before Tim Clue was an educator, professional speaker, published playwright, husband, and father, he was an undiagnosed hyper-active dyslexic rug rat from a small town outside Chicago.  From this environment was cultivated a deep passion for teaching, writing, and presenting. By 24, Tim was a college educator and coaching a nationally-recognized speech team, all while training at Improv Olympic, Second City, and performing stand-up comedy in Chicago.
Now Tim has brought to bear all his experiences as an educator, improv training, and headlining comedy stages and has synthesized his calling as a Humorous Motivational Speaker. Tim is bringing "social" back into the meeting space by inspiring and connecting educators through the infinite power of laughter and connections.

Did you know?
ESC TEKS Resource System Leadership Team

Did you know that a team of ESC TEKS Resource System  leaders that includes members from each Education Service Center and all the members of the TEKS Resource System Content Development Team communicates throughout the year and meets almost every month to plan, discuss, and share about the TEKS Resource System?

Content Development Team

Both teams that make up the TEKS Resource System Leadership Team plan...
  • the statewide TEKS Resource System TEKSCON conference,
  • the District Advisory Group Meeting, and
  • the TEKS Resource System ESC Conference for all ESC staff that support the TEKS Resource System in districts.
The group plans and creates trainings to support TEKS Resource System districts across the state and creates this newsletter to help push information to all end-users of the curriculum and assessment system.
This Leadership Team is working behind the scenes to make sure your curriculum is a viable curriculum while you are busy doing the magic in your district and classrooms! Teamwork makes the dream-work. Thanks to all those contributing to the system to make this the best curriculum ever.
Content Updates:

ELAR/SLAR Update
Curriculum
  • The Language Arts team has been processing all of the feedback we have received as we finalize the new K-8 curriculum documents including K-6 SLAR.
  • In July, we will pull down the current/old curriculum content and begin to publish our new content to the live site.
  • The process of entering and publishing all the new content will take some time. We will leave all the PDFs in the TCMPC Resource section until everything is fully published.
  • High school curriculum development is nearly complete. We will be publishing the draft PDFs in the TCMPC Resources section in September.
  • There are some ESCs that have volunteered to host focus groups on the new high school documents. If you are interested, contact your local ESC to see if they will be hosting one of the focus groups. You will also be able to provide us feedback directly by using the feedback button within our site.
Assessment
  • Our new contract Assessment Development Team is on board and busy writing and revising passages and items for the new curriculum.
  • We will begin posting Grades 3-8 assessment items including 3-6 SLAR in July once IFDs start going live.
  • Our goal is to have 1st six weeks available by the end of July with 1st 6 weeks SLAR available in mid-August, and 2nd six weeks available by the end of August/beginning of September with 2nd six weeks SLAR available mid-September.
  • The rest of the six weeks will roll out throughout the fall.
  • Now that TEA has some answers from passed legislation, we are hoping to have some guidance to how the new SEs will be assessed soon. We will make adjustments as necessary.
Resources
  • In the TCPMC Resources section, we have added a new folder to house the resources for the new curriculum.
  • So far, we have uploaded our Concept Chart, Vertical YAGs, and a resource that explains the new TVD Categories.
  • Coming soon, we will have the Phonics Scope and Sequence.
  • Most other resources will be developed over the course of the next year.
  • Please send us a feedback if there is a resource that we currently have that you would like to see re-developed, if there is a resource in another content area that you would like to see in language arts, and/or if there is a resource that Is not available that you think would be helpful in implementing the new TEKS and the new curriculum.

We can't wait to see how this K-8 curriculum on the new TEKS works for teachers across Texas. Please don't be shy using the feedback button. Let us know what is going well and what you think may need to be tweaked. This is YOUR curriculum. We don't know how it is working unless you tell us!

Math Update
NEW Assessment Writing has Begun
  • Currently, the Mathematics team has hired unit assessment item writers and reviewers. These teams have been trained and the writing process has begun!
  • There will be 480 additional unit assessment items for Mathematics Grades 2-8 and Algebra I, and 240 additional unit assessment items for Matemáticas Grades 2-5. These items will be posted in the TEKS Resource System beginning in July 2019 with a completed upload date of September 2019.

In addition, we are writing a new high school course, Algebraic Reasoning.
  • The writers and reviewers for this course have completed writing the Enhanced TEKS Clarification Document (ETCD), Vertical Alignment Document (VAD), Year at a Glance (YAG) for 6-weeks and 9-weeks, TEKS Verification Document (TVD) for 6-weeks and 9-weeks, and the Course Overview.
  • We have focus groups of Texas educators across the state reviewing these documents and providing critical feedback. Thank you so much focus groups!
  • The writing team is now focused on writing the IFDs. In August, we will be posting the DRAFT curriculum documents in the Resource section of the Algebraic Reasoning course in the TEKS Resource System.
  • We will be asking districts to provide feedback on these documents throughout the year.
  • In 2020-2021, we will post the final documents for Algebraic Reasoning in TEKS Resource System like the other high school mathematics courses.

Future work for 2019-2020 includes...
  • continuing to build the unit assessment item bank for Algebra II, Geometry, MMA, and Precalculus, and...
  • beginning the development process for unit assessment items for Algebraic Reasoning.
  • Additionally, we will continue to build the formative item bank for Mathematics Grades K-8, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Matemáticas Grades K-5, and...
  • begin the development process for formative items for MMA, Precalculus, and Algebraic Reasoning.
  • Of course, our future work includes incorporating the 2019 STAAR released items for Mathematics Grades 3-8 and Algebra I and Matemáticas Grades 3-5 into our current STAAR Analysis documents by student expectation and by unit.
  • In addition, we will be re-aligning the revised CCRS standards in the ETCD, VAD, and IFDs for all grade levels in Mathematics and Grades K-5 Matemáticas.
  • If revised TEA Supporting Information documents are released, we will incorporate new information through all curriculum and assessment components.

During the 2019-2020 school year, we encourage you to get involved in writing and/or reviewing unit assessment items and formative items for TEKS Resource System. Join the mathematics family! In September 2019, check the employment opportunities at http://www4.esc13.net/ for TEKS Resource System Mathematics.

Our team wishes you a happy, restful summer!

Social Studies Update

The summer has brought the streamlining changes to social studies.

  • For the most part, streamlining involved realigning components to the new standard number.
  • Additionally, the deletions and moves of standards have led us to eliminate some assessment items as well as revise specificity.
  • The unit organization of most courses stay mostly the same.
  • You will notice that along with realigning assessment items, the item name may have changes since the name is dependent on the standard number.
We have also moved the draft US history course from a resource to an actual course.
  • This is still a work in progress however. We would welcome feedback. Please be patient as we steadily add aligned assessment items.
The legislature passed an amended version of HB1244.
  • Ten questions for the federal Naturalization Test that align with US History TEKS will be added to the 11th grade STAAR.
  • We have reviewed the items and possible alignments, but we are waiting for TEA to indicate a likely alignment that may provide us a platform for building resources.
