City of Birmingham, MI
Old Woodward Reconstruction Project Update - 5/21/18
Coming off a productive weekend of water and sewer work on the south half of the Old Woodward Reconstruction Project (south of Maple), the project is now 40 percent complete as the new work week (Mon. 5-21-18 through Sat. 5-26-18) gets underway.

Starting Tuesday, (5-22-18) planned work for this week includes the disconnection from the old water main system to the new water main service for buildings on Old Woodward from Maple to Brown. This process involves a temporary water service shutoff of about two hours so contractors can execute the disconnection/reconnection cycle as efficiently as possible. Roughly five buildings on Old Woodward from Maple to Brown will experience up to a four hour disconnection-reconnection cycle. This is due to the fact these buildings have extensive fire connection services. One day in advance of a temporary water disconnection/reconnection cycle, field inspectors will personally notify all buildings of how and when they will be impacted by this critical phase of the project. The City thanks you for your patience and understanding as it works to complete the intricate water shutoff/reconnection process, as was successfully done earlier in the project.

On the north end of the Old Woodward Reconstruction Project, (north of Maple), crews will begin to build the stone base, the first step toward the eventual pouring of concrete, targeted to start at the end of the month. Once the pouring of concrete begins, it is anticipated that work on Eastbound Maple could be completed by mid-June, resulting in the re-opening of traffic on
Eastbound Maple on the new concrete.
