WHAT'S HAPPENING at Spring Hill UCC
March 25, 2020
UPDATE ON CHURCH DURING THIS PANDEMIC
Where are we and what is happening?
  • Fellowship Hall had to be closed for our worship services because of the new regulations (private groups renting the buildings had to made their own decisions as to meet or not)
  • So far one group has cancelled their meetings until May.
  •  The pastor is on social media with a message and during the week with devotionals.
  •  The pastor is calling every member of the congregation to make sure they are ok and see if they need anything. (should you have an emergency please call the pastor directly.
  • Marty is working at home, but she answers the church phone number. (Note – she is taking vacation this week.)
  • Each ministry has been asked to NOT spend any funds (mission’s book money is exempt).
  • Rich Ives is picking up the mail each day and making bank deposits.
  •  Looking at the information I have been given we need around $4,100.00 each week to make the budget.
  • We have asked checks mailed and also have provided on-live giving on website (such as PayPal and Tithe.ly) which has collected approximately $2,000.00 for two a week period.
  • As you can see we are collecting very little as compared to our need.
  • We are going to have to use other funds such as the Endowment and Memorial funds (the $10,000.00 we kept in an account to borrow from during the summer will be all used up shortly).
  • We set a sum of money in the budget to pay back the money we borrowed from the Memorial and Endowment funds each month. We will stop this monthly payment until we get back to normal.
  • We are afraid we have to keep the campus closed, for all of April. Should we able to open earlier we will.
  • With all this bad news I still feel we can once again join together and overcome this setback.
What can we do ?
  •  Call a member of the church, they would love to hear from you and don’t be surprised if that Hi, how are you?, turns into a little longer conversation.
  • Please send in you donations (Sorry if I am sounding like a TV preacher ).
  • When the rules change and we get back to Fellowship Hall Shannon will need a lot of people to help get things ready.
CDC ADVICE :
So the recommendations being made by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local authorities are of critical importance for Timber Pines residents. These are serious guidelines that involve a personal commitment to avoid spreading and contracting COVID-19:
Constant hand washing - Whenever you go out in public wash your hands thoroughly upon returning home or going to a public restroom. Consider using hand sanitizer several times while out. And avoid touching your face. Soap and water work just fine.
Social distancing - We tend to stand closer and lean towards our friends when in conversation. Try to maintain some distance; at least six feet.
Stay home if not feeling well - The message about self-quarantine and lock-downs is real. Influenza, colds, and seasonal allergies still abound, but their early symptoms may resemble COVID-19. So call your health professional if you are concerned, especially before venturing out.

See the Mayo Clinic information below.
Postpone non-essential visits - Routine visits to doctors, dentists, hair stylists, or barbers should be postponed. Maintain safe distances if service personnel come to your house for air conditioning or plumbing repairs, and sanitize surfaces that have been touched.
Caution with guests - Spring break is here and with it beaches are closing and lockouts are being mandated in the midst of the pandemic. Your guests should not be exempt from any of the recommendations for preventing or mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
The challenges we face and life-style changes stemming from the pandemic will likely continue for months as infection rates increase before leveling out and then decreasing. It is possible that pockets of COVID-19 infection may even occur sporadically throughout the coming year. So vigilance is more important than ever for your health and wellbeing.
Well, enough of the down hearted news ,there are some real positive thing going on. I got up this morning to the sound of a mother robin instructing her young ones. The warm sun is surely a wonderful feeling compared to some of the winters I remember back home in the snow belt. Go for a walk enjoy all the beautiful things God has provided us. Most of all remember we at SHUCC are a family the stories we share will always bring a smile. It’s a wonderful day and are blessed to be able to enjoy it.

Bless you all, hope to see you soon

Thank You for your continued support!
Paul writes:  For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).

In his list of perils, Paul did not specifically mention Coronavirus. However, this modern day pandemic fits nicely into “nor anything else in all creation.”

We are journeying through an uncharted wilderness. The most honest advisors simply admit there is much we do not know. Yet, as Christ’s gathered Church, we do know with certainty we will never be abandoned, forgotten, nor separated from God’s love.

We are the caretakers of Christ’s Church. We have been gifted with this sacred responsibility. That means in the harshest of times, in the most uncertain times, and in those moments of peril, our commitment goes on. The Church will not perish, and neither will we.

The Church of Christ will continue to have overhead needs that are part of our commitment. Insurance, utilities, salaries, maintenance, and a long list of other costs do not cease when we are obliged to temporarily close our doors. The Stewardship Committee asks the members and friends of SHUCC to be both prayerful and mindful of the great responsibility we share in our continuing financial support.

One day (hopefully soon) Coronavirus will be an unpleasant memory and our world will again be healthy. Your ongoing financial support will insure we will have a healthy church .
