PRESENTATION ON GUT-BRAIN CONNECTION & MENTAL HEALTH
THURSDAY SEP. 13, 2018
Join us for this free presentation by Doreen Rasp, who is the guest speaker at NAMI Sussex's general membership meeting on Thurs. Sep. 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Bridgeway, 93 Stickles Pond, Rd., Newton, NJ. Rasp has been a Registered Nurse since 1995 and completed a Master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Rutgers University in 2009. In 2015, Rasp completed a Post-Master’s certification as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Wilkes University. She has specialized in primary care as well as gastroenterology. Help bring the film screening of
"Suicide: The Ripple Effect" to Sparta Theatre on Wednesday, September 26, 7:30 p.m.
Help NAMI Sussex bring the documentary film
“Suicide: the Ripple Effect”
to the Sparta Theatre as we raise awareness of suicide prevention during National Suicide Prevention Month in September.
We still need 41 advance ticket reservations by noon on Sep. 14 for the screening to occur

Once we meet that requirement, the screening will be confirmed and your credit card will be charged. If we do not meet the minimum, the screening will be cancelled and your credit card will not be charged. Tickets ($12 each) can be reserved at:

NAMI Basics Course starts Tues. Oct. 2. in Denville
NAMI Morris County & NAMI Sussex, in collaboration with Family Partners of Morris & Sussex Counties, are pleased to co-sponsor NAMI Basics: a free 6 session course for parents/family caregivers of children (2-18) with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges. Learn about helping your child, coping with stress, working with schools and healthcare providers, and more. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, from Oct. 2 - Nov. 6, from 7-9:30 p.m. at St. Francis Residential Community & Conference Center in Denville. The teachers are trained volunteer parents who have been there and would like to share their knowledge and support other families.

Spots still available in our Fall Family-to-Family Course
Starting Wed., Sept. 12 in Sparta
The Fall 2018 NAMI Sussex Family-to-Family course will be held on Wednesdays, 7:00-9:30 p.m., at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Sparta, beginning Sept. 12 and ending Dec. 5. This free evidence-based 12 session course can be a great help to anyone who has an older teen or adult loved one with mental illness.
Course participants learn effective communication skills, problem-solving techniques, and how to manage their own stress in the caregiving role. They learn the scientific facts about brain-based mental health conditions. They find relief in knowing that they are not alone. The teachers (family caregivers themselves) can connect class members with local treatment resources for the ill loved one, as well as ongoing family support services.

BOB CUBBY DISCUSSES PTSD IN POLICE
ON "ALL THAT IS BLUE"
|
Bob Cubby, co-facilitator of NAMI Sussex's PTS (Post-traumatic Stress) Connection group for veterans and first responders, will be the featured guest on Sep. 1 & 8 on the New York City radio talk show "All That is Blue," hosted by JP Beebe, a retired Sparta police officer. Bob will be discussing PTSD in police, recognizing PTSD and actions to take, coping techniques, and the reason PTSD is not discussed. NAMI HOMEFRONT ONLINE - REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
NAMI Homefront is a free, 6-session program for family, friends and significant others of military Service Members and Veterans. The class helps families understand what the Service Member/ Veteran is experiencing related to trauma, combat stress, civilian life transition, PTSD and other mental health conditions.
The program is designed to help family members understand and support their Service Member/Veteran while maintaining their own well-being. NAMI Homefront leaders have personal experience with mental health conditions impacting their Service Member/ Veteran.
Registration is now open for the following eastern time sessions:
Eastern, Mondays, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., ET, Oct. 1 - Nov. 5
Eastern Day, Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., ET, Oct. 2 - Nov. 6
An application process is required to ensure this program is a good fit. Space is limited.
