Your Community Brief from Oak Ridge High School
Friday, March 27, 2020

|
Over these past four days, our Oak Ridge teachers have been working hard on preparations to set up their online classrooms and to acclimate to a distance learning model. I am proud of the efforts of our teachers and staff, and we are excited to provide significant online learning opportunities and move forward with subject area content starting Monday, March 30th.
We recognize that our Pioneers and their families have widely varying needs, abilities and time-constraints, particularly during this crisis. As a result, our teachers and school teams will be working, as they do every day, with students and parents to ensure a balanced approach to distance learning - Oak Ridge teacher & staff emails. I recommend that you take a look at the Orange County Public Schools portal which was developed for students and parents to help prepare for distance learning before Monday.
We never anticipated our spring break and the following weeks would look like this, yet we wish all our students and staff, parents and Oak Ridge community a healthy and safe week ahead; may you find some respite from this challenging time we are facing.
In Pioneer Pride,
Principal

Distance Learning
Teacher facilitated distance learning begins Monday, March 30th
Throughout this past week, teachers have been communicating with their students and parents on several important factors:
- How to access distance learning content and lessons
- Teacher availability hours and means of contact
- Important link to access ebooks, tutorials and other valuable information from the Orange County Library System for distance learning.
- More information can be found at this link - https://www.ocps.net/cms/One.aspx?portalId=54703&pageId=1404923

If you click on the chart there is another link where you can see how the coronavirus has impacted schools around the globe by day. We are fortunate here in that Orange County Public Schools rolls out distance learning on Monday until the health risk has passed (many students in these other countries do not have this opportunity). We know our Pioneers will be successful with the process until classes resume later in April.

Oak Ridge community footnote: The map above shows the scale of the educational disruption with governments all over the world ordering learners to stay at home in a bid to slow the spread of the disease. As of March 23, 2020, 138 countries had ordered national school closures while others had localized closures.

Grab-and-Go Meals
Meals are available (began March 23rd) for pick-up between 10:00AM and 2:00PM in front of the Media Center. Students must be present to receive the meals. Staff will distribute the meals directly to those in their vehicles (drive thru service). Meals will be given directly to any students walking and/or riding a bike. Based on recommendations from our federal and state leaders, all meals should be taken home to eat.
