Roxbury Businesses Can Help Band Keep Marching
Parents, students, musicians and people who love to see marching bands will flock to Succasunna next month for the 10
th Annual Marching Band Classic. All of them will get a free program.
That's why local businesses should consider advertising in the program, said Danielle Kovach, a member of the Roxbury High School Band Parents Association who is helping organize the Classic.
"Our Classic brings in about 3,000 people," Kovach said. So far, 11 high school marching bands have signed-up to perform at the Sept. 29 event, taking place at Roxbury High School.
Ads in the program will be seen not only by Roxbury residents but also by people from nearby towns who come to watch their schools' bands compete, noted Kovach.
Money raised by business ads and sponsorships "goes directly to the students" for musical instrument repair, uniforms, supplies and other expenses in the Roxbury High School band program, Kovach said. The Marching Band Classic is the program's biggest fundraiser, she said.
Business owners who want to help can find information
here or they can contact Michael Mangano, RHSBPA President and Classic Co-Chair, at
[email protected] or 201-841-5601.

Excitement Over Roxbury Fall Sports and First H.S. Gymnastics Team
Scrimmages for Roxbury High School's fall sports began this week and Roxbury High School Athletics Director Stu Mason is optimistic about the upcoming season.
Many of last year's Roxbury teams lost star players to graduation, but Mason said there are plenty of veteran athletes remaining.
"Our athletes have been working hard all summer long in the weight room and practice field preparing for this upcoming fall season," he said. "We have high expectations, as usual, for our athletes and for our program. It will be a season with something new: The high school, for the first time, is fielding a girls gymnastics team.
"I am really excited for the Gaels to be competing in gymnastics officially for the first time this season," Mason said. The team is being coached by Tara Liska, a 22-year-old, 2014 Roxbury graduate who was a gymnast for 17 years.

Roxbury High School Cross Country Team Kick off the School Year
Although Summer hasn't ended quite yet, the Roxbury Gaels are back at it. The Roxbury High School Cross Country athletes held their annual kick-off dinner on Tuesday, August 21st.
Last year, their Booster Club decided that the team should encourage its athletes to give back to the community that supports them so families coming to the kick-off dinner were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to Roxbury Social Services, an organization in town that provides Roxbury Township residents with necessary services and information based on individual needs and handling emergency situations in our community. The food pantry exists solely on the generous donations from individuals and local businesses. Many individuals and families in the Township rely on social services and the food pantry.
Coaches Laura Schmidt and Derek Bischoff encouraged their student-athletes to participate by reminding them during practices and via their Google Classroom page. The team, made up for 10 girls and 30 boys responded, collecting enough items to fill a trunk of a car. Captain, Andrew Marino, and teammates Aidan Straut, Michael Garrity, and Michael Stanzilis delivered their collected items to Roxbury Social Services on Wednesday, August 22nd.
The RHS Cross Country team is gearing up this year with their annual XC Invitational Race. It is estimated that 1,000 athletes from high schools all over Northern NJ will attend the event. This year it will be held on Saturday, September 8th at Horseshoe Lake.
The premier sponsor for this year's Invitational is Kessler Rehabilitation Center. They have close to 100 convenient locations all over northern NJ. To find a location near you, go to
www.kessler-pt.com. As part of their sponsorship, Kessler will be offering an experienced staff of licensed physical therapists who specialize in sports injuries. Athletes and spectators are welcome to come by the Kessler tent to meet the clinical staff and learn more about injury prevention and movement efficiency.
