National Heritage Area Initiative
ready for Senate review

Susquehanna Heritage is seeking National Heritage Area designation of Lancaster and York Counties by the United States Congress. The Susquehanna National Heritage Area will advance heritage and outdoor tourism in our region, create jobs, and enhance our region's economy. National recognition will boost visibility and visitation, bring more National Park Service support, and further promote the majestic Susquehanna - its scenic riverlands, its vibrant river towns, and its special significance to our nation's history. In June 2018, the U.S. House of Representatives approved Congressman Lloyd Smucker's bill to designate Lancaster and York Counties as the Susquehanna National Heritage Area.

Help support our efforts to become a National Heritage Area by expressing your support and asking U.S. Senator Bob Casey & U.S. Senator Pat Toomey to support congressional designation of the Susquehanna National Heritage Area!

The Susquehanna crested at Marietta on Thursday at 50.93 feet. The height hasn't been seen since Tropical Storm Lee in September 2011 when the river reached 58.16 feet at Marietta. Explore the river historic flood periods here.

As the water recedes, riverfront cleanup efforts begin along the NW River Trail, at homes and vacation cottages, and at the many river access. Take a look back at the Susquehanna's high water through these articles:
