Today's COVID-19 Update: March 25, 2020
Distance learning: Agreement reached with teachers on timeline
The District and the Folsom Cordova Education Association, which represents the District's teachers and other certificated employees, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today regarding the school closure related to COVID-19. Each team recognizes there is a need to close schools and move to an alternative learning plan to allow for social distancing as recommended by public health officials in order to prevent the spread of illness arising from the coronavirus during the 2019-20 school year.

Below is the timeline agreed upon by FCEA and the District. (Note: While the District has not changed its scheduled reopen date of April 14, we are preparing for possible closure beyond April 14, pending direction from the Governor and Sacramento County Public Health.)
  • March 23 - 27: Distance learning rollout. Teachers work with on-line training modules and become familiar with Schoology.
  • March 30 - April 3: "Soft roll out." Teachers and students take beginning steps working/interacting together through the on-line platform.
  • April 6 - 13: Spring Break (non-instructional week)
  • April 14 - 17: "Reacquaint with on-line learning platform" Teachers and students re-engage through the online learning platform. Teachers adjust as necessary.
  • April 20 Forward: Pending shelter-in-place directives from the Governor and Sacramento County Health, continue with distance learning.

Today's Mindful Moment: growing your brain strength
-from Geovanni Linares, our FCUSD Social-Emotional Academic Development Coordinator:

Have you found that being at home while trying to keep a schedule is really hard? We have!

Aside from trying to find ways to keep our kids busy, engage in learning, and continue to keep up with work commitments, even small things are starting to get away from us. This morning, our girls questioned why they need to get out of their pajamas and get dressed for school.

I was unsure of how to respond beyond the "because I said so". Luckily, when researching activities to do at home, I came across this page that reminds us that regardless of what we are learning, our brains have the ability to grow and get stronger. We can always find ways to rewire that muscle to help us grow.

Click here for a video for elementary and secondary along with a poster-making activity. The objective of the lesson is to learn about how the brain is a muscle that needs us to help it grow. The poster activity asks students to identify ways in which we can work out this muscle regardless of how we are learning. I would love to see your posters of how you are making your brains stronger.

Remember, we may be socially distancing, but we can still be connected.
