Have a Safe and Happy Labor Day Weekend!

U.S. Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in
New York
City, planned by the Central Labor Union. The Labor Day parade of about 10,000 workers took unpaid leave and marched from City Hall past Union Square uptown to 42nd Street, and ended in
Wendel
’s Elm Park at 92nd Street and 9th Avenue for a concert, speeches, and a picnic

OPIOID DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING -Thursday, August 30
A community screening of “Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict,” a documentary aimed at educating students and young adults about the dangers of addiction. Following the film, Congressman Brad Schneider lead a group discussion on the opioid crisis.

Fort Sheridan Reopens with Lake Michigan Overlook
The
Lake County Forest Preserves
announces the reopening of
Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve
in Lake Forest with new and improved features that provide greater access to the site’s natural beauty and rich military history. Following more than a year of construction, visitors will once again be able to enjoy portions of the preserve’s scenic trails and access to the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Interested in selling antiques, crafts, organic foods, craft beers, or other wares? Are you a musician or an entertainment provider looking for a gig appealing to all age groups? Consider being a vendor at the Lake County Marketplace, which takes place on September 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the College of Lake County’s Grayslake.

From your Mailbox to the Ballot Box
Beginning August 8, Lake County residents correctly registered with their current name and address can complete the required application to request a ballot by mail for the November 6, 2018 election.

Although any registered voter can vote by mail, this is an ideal voting option for snowbirds, students away at school, and those who will be traveling on Election Day as your ballot can be mailed anywhere.
According to Illinois state statute, ballots cannot be mailed to voters until late September.
The Clerk's office must receive your completed application by noon on Thursday, November 1. Voted ballots being returned by mail must be postmarked by midnight on Election Day.

Are You Registered to Vote?
I
f you need to update your record or register for the first time, voter registration is open now and is conveniently available at many locations around the county, or by mail. You can register to vote at the Libertyville Township office also.
We are open Mon-Fri 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Each applicant must be a United States citizen, 18 years of age by Election Day, and meet a 30-day Lake County residency requirement.
Two forms of valid identification must be presented at the time of registration.

This curb-to-curb Pace bus service travels East in Lake County – any destinations located in Libertyville, Fremont Shields Townships, Village of Libertyville, Village of Mundelein, , Vernon Hills Shopping Center, Metra Station (Lake Forest), Lake County Health Dept., Walmart Fountain Square, Grayslake Medical Offices, Doctors on Winchester Road, College of Lake County, Greenleaf Medical Offices. Call Pace at 1-800-201-6446 to register and schedule your rides.

RTA Reduced Fare Pass Applications
New Applicants--
Seniors 65 and over may apply for the RTA Pass at Libertyville Township. Taking the train downtown? This will save you money and it is free. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to receive the pass in the mail. Bring in a 2x2 inch photo and your Illinois driver's license.
The RTA Reduced Fare Permit allows older adults, age 65 and older, and qualified people with disabilities and Medicare recipients to ride all RTA fixed-route services (regularly scheduled CTA, Metra and Pace buses or trains in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties) at a reduced fare.
