March 2-6 is National School Breakfast Week
To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available for school breakfast, Fairview Park City Schools will celebrate National School Breakfast Week during March 2-6, 2020.

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. However, US Department of Agriculture data show that more and more students are starting their day with a nutritious breakfast in their school cafeterias. The USDA School Breakfast Program currently serves more than 14 million students every day. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

  • Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
  • Score higher on standardized tests
  • Have better concentration and memory
  • Be more alert
  • Maintain a healthy weight

The National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) campaign theme, "Out of This World," reminds the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students. School nutrition professionals and students will be encouraged to show their enthusiasm for school breakfast from March 2-6 as the district celebrates with special menus, cafeteria events, and more.

"A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students get the best education they can," said Diana Hill, Food Service Coordinator. "National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all the healthy, great tasting, and appealing choices we offer."

Students can purchase breakfast in the cafeteria before school or grab-and-go and take breakfast to their classroom.

Breakfast cost is $1.55 ($0.30 for reduced pay) for all grade levels.

District Shares Guidance on Coronavirus Preparedness
This past week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released information for schools about coronavirus prevention. We have reviewed these federal guidelines as well as the Ohio Department of Health's recommendations regarding coronavirus in schools.

Health officials currently recommend a series of common-sense protections for our students, staff and community:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Stay at home if you are sick and keep children at home if they are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, and throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
While the threat of the coronavirus impacting American schools remains unknown, we continue to work with government and health care agencies to develop coronavirus response plans.

We will continue to update you on our efforts as well as developments involving this health concern.

Stay in the Know - Please be sure that your most up to date contact information is in your PowerSchool parent portal under Alerts.

Thank you.
