Good evening friends

We had such an exciting agenda planned for the April annual meeting! It is always a great to see so many of you, share things the ILWA is working on and talk about many of the positive things going on with the lake and the neighborhood. While it's not possible to hold a meeting in person this month, we are in the process of putting together a 'virtual' experience.

Please watch for information on this coming very soon!

At this time, we will continue to plan our Spring Cleanup for Saturday, May 9th so please mark your calendars.

Sending prayers for good health to each of you and your families.

Thank you as always for your support.

State of the Lakes Hits Home Run/ 'Blue Space Minute' Takes Off

We're proud to report that there was a full house at this year's State of the Lakes on March 4th!

The City of Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks hosts this informative evening for residents to learn about c itizen and city initiatives to improve our surface waters. This year's event highlighted the work of the Worcester Cyanobacteria Monitoring Collaborative (WCMC). WCMC volunteers have played a pivotal role in collecting and evaluating water samples from our important recreational water resources across the City.

Typically the season starts with a call for WCMC volunteers and a short training session. Stay tuned for more information on how the plan will move forward this year.

Another highlight of the State of the Lakes was the kickoff of the 'Blue Space Minute'! This educational series breaks down some of the challenges facing our local water ways, what the city is doing to address them and, of course, what YOU can do to help!

The series begins with Indian Lake! A new segment is released every Monday. Special thanks to Jacquelyn Burmeister, Senior Environmental Analyst, Lakes and Ponds,  DPW&P Water Operations Division; the City of Worcester Cable Services Division and special guest Carl Nielsen, CLM, Director of Water Resources, ESS Group, Inc.

Seasoned Anglers and Fishing Enthusiasts... We need your help!

The City of Worcester Lakes and Ponds Division, with support from local watershed partners, is focused on identifying water quality challenges that are directly impacting local fisheries.

As part of this effort, it's important to gather as much local knowledge as possible so that management solutions can be evaluated.

We have developed an Angler Survey which will be available through May 1, 2020 for you to share your experiences fishing Worcester's waterways. Fishing enthusiasts of all levels are encouraged to participate in the survey which incorporates a mix of multiple choice and open ended opportunities for input and suggestions. Please complete the survey and encourage others to participate.

Thank you in advance for helping us continue to protect, preserve and improve our waterways!

Shore Drive Alignment Project Underway

The Shore Drive alignment project has begun. The project, which will align Shore Drive with Drummond Avenue and include the installation of a traffic signal, is a state project that has been on the list for consideration for about 20 years. The project entered the planning phase in conjunction with the City of Worcester and affected property owners about 5 years ago. The initial stages will be focused on moving utilities.

Project completion is currently estimated as November 2020.
Worcester's Open Space & Recreation Plan

Help plan the future of Worcester's Parks, Recreation and Open Space System. Your input is essential! What's important to you? Walking paths, playgrounds, athletic fields, accessibility, ease of getting to and from your favorite park/beach? Please provide your feedback:

Thanks to our friends at MA Audubon for this fun and creative idea to connect with nature while practicing safe social distancing and having fun!
