Superintendent Correspondence: Coronavirus Update
With each decision, I have been in continual contact with local health officials, Department of Education officials, a network of Morris County superintendents, and Board of Education members in order to determine the best course of action for our students, staff, and families. This was a very difficult decision to make as the impact on our community will be great. Although I am unaware of any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Roxbury, in review of the guidance from the CDC, Governor Murphy's recommendation to cancel all events statewide with more than 250 people in attendance, and in consultation with our local health officer, Board of Education, and others, Roxbury Public Schools will be closed beginning on Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 27th.
As you are aware, the district held an early dismissal on Tuesday, March 10th. The purpose of the early dismissal was to provide professional development support for our staff should the event of an extended closure of schools become necessary.
Our plan to provide a virtual learning experience for our students was sent to the County Executive Superintendent for approval. The approved plan would
enable us to implement it and have the days count towards the 180- requirement without hindering the remainder of our school year calendar.
Virtual learning will commence immediately. To help the community understand the implementation of our virtual learning experience which we have named Flexible Instruction Days (FID), we will be presenting two informational sessions. The first being today at 10:00 a.m. This presentation will be recorded and posted at www.roxbury.org once it has concluded for future reference and for anyone who is unable to attend the live session. A second presentation will occur at the upcoming Board of Education meeting scheduled for Monday, March 16th at 7:30 PM in Lincoln Roosevelt auditorium.
Please join us if you are interested in hearing about the particulars of the plan. The presentation and an FAQ will be posted on the district website the following day. Click here

US Census 2020 - Statistics in School (SIS) Week
The US Census Bureau has designated March 2nd to March 6th as Statistics in School (SIS) week. As part of SIS week, there are several things that we can do to participate to help ensure that every child in New Jersey is counted:
Check out the SIS take-home flyer - This flyer is available in 13 languages. It explains to adults the importance of the 2020 Census and how to count every child in their home.
Students will be taking part in Statistics in Schools Week: Everyone Counts! This is a weeklong series of fun classroom activities provided by the U.S. Census Bureau's Statistics in Schools (SIS) program to educate students about the importance of the once-a-decade count. The
"SIS Week: Everyone Counts" webpage contains examples of activities from the SIS program. Take a look at them and see how you can help explain the Census to your child or neighbor!
This is our one chance until 2030 to ensure that every New Jersey child gets the resources they need for a quality education. Additional Information is available at
census.nj.gov.

Roxbury Wrestling Updates:
Freshman Roxbury Grappler Makes Podium at States - Mar 6
Eighth-seeded Roxbury High School wrestler Luke Stanich, a freshman, made it to the podium at the NJSIAA state wrestling championships last Friday, the first Roxbury wrestler to get that far since 2014.
Stanich defeated Nico Calello of Watchung Hills - the top-seeded wrestler in the 106-pound weight class - in the quarterfinal competition. The win set up Stanich for a semi-finals battle.
Stanich subsequently was beaten there by fourth-seeded, and undefeated, Kinnelon wrestler Evan Mougalian. The loss dashed Stanich's shot at becoming Roxbury's first state champion since 2014.
Nevertheless, his performance made Stanich the first Roxbury wrestler to reach the podium at the tournament since his brother Troy did so four years ago. Click here to read more from TAPinto Roxbury.
