ACTION NEEDED:
Please send a witness slip in support of SB 3015 Stock Asthma Rescue Medication in Schools Bill. It unanimously passed in the Senate, and now will be heard in the House Elementary and Secondary Education School Curriculum and Policy Committee, that is meeting Thursday, May 17th at 9AM. This bill would amend the school code to permit schools to voluntarily stock asthma rescue medication (Albuterol) and for trained staff to administer it when an individual is experiencing respiratory distress.
WHY IT MATTERS:
In Illinois, more than 330,000 children are reported to have asthma, but it is estimated that less than 25% of these children have their asthma under proper control. Asthma is a leading cause of absenteeism in the state, accounting for 313,710 missed days. Asthma medical costs in Illinois are projected to reach $1.9 billion by 2020.
