TWO IMPORTANT REFERENDUM QUESTIONS

In accordance with section 60.30(1e) of the Wisconsin Statutes, the town board has arranged for the following questions to appear on the April 7, 2020 election ballot:

  1. Shall the person holding the Office of Town Clerk in the Town of St. Germain be appointed by the Town Board?
  2. Shall the person holding the Office of Town Treasurer in the Town of St. Germain be appointed by the Town Board?

Registered voters who will not be in St. Germain on April 7 are encouraged to vote by absentee ballot. Instructions for voter registration and obtaining an absentee ballot can be found in the "Election Forms & Instructions" section of the Voting & Elections page of the town website.

APRIL 21 ANNUAL ELECTOR MEETING
7:00PM - ST. GERMAIN COMMUNITY CENTER

The Town Board will be asking electors in attendance to vote on two resolutions:

  1. To authorize the Town to accept transfer of ownership of the St. Germain Memorial Cemetery from the St. Germain Cemetery Association. The current directors of the volunteer Association, which was formed in 1964 and has operated the cemetery since its creation, recently voted to disband effective May 1, 2020.
  2. To authorize transferring ownership, from the Town to the Lost Lake District, of the small land parcel on which the Lost Creek Dam has been located for approximately 80 years.

Additionally, State Statutes empower town electors to conduct certain business at annual town meetings. The powers of the people are explained in excerpts from the statutes on the bottom of the Elector Meeting page of the town website.
CEMETERY UPDATE
NEW ORDINANCE

As reported in our January 23, 2020 outreach message , ownership and operation of the St. Germain Memorial Cemetery is about to transfer to the Town following a recent decision of the current Cemetery Association directors to disband (also see the above Annual Meeting topic in this outreach message).

State Statutes require the Town to adopt an ordinance pertaining to how the cemetery will be operated. The ordinance is scheduled for adoption at a special meeting of the town board on April 21st at 8:00PM following completion of the Annual Elector Meeting which will convene at 7:00PM. Public comments concerning the ordinance will be accepted verbally at that meeting or in writing any time prior to the meeting.

Please review St. Germain Code of Ordinances, Chapter 18 - Cemetery and feel welcome to submit comments or questions to any of the town board members. Our email addresses can be found on the Elected & Appointed Officials page of the town website.
