Statement by BioNJ President and CEO Debbie Hart on  New Jersey COVID-19 Activity

"We thank New Jersey General Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and the New Jersey General Assembly for their response today to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. COVID-19 is an unprecedented public health emergency here in New Jersey, and the package of bills considered today will help New Jerseyans navigate these uncertain times.

"New Jersey's elected leaders have stepped up to the plate to ensure New Jersey is as prepared as possible for COVID-19. Governor Murphy and his leadership team have taken prudent measures to limit impact throughout the State, including today's executive order implementing social distancing through the closure of schools, gyms, casinos, and other places where large crowds gather. Senate President Sweeney has also proposed several measures that would have meaningful impact on employees and employers alike throughout our State. We thank them both for their leadership during this public health emergency.

"As social distancing is recommended for the coming weeks, small businesses and their employees throughout the State will face uncertainty not only in wages but also in lost revenue from canceled events and other necessary postponements.

" Thank you to Governor Murphy the New Jersey Legislature for taking these important actions. We look forward to working with our elected leaders on the COVID-19 response on behalf of our State's nearly 400,000 biopharmaceutical employees and all of its citizens."
