Mark your calendars for J-School Generations on Sept. 27-28! J-School Generations is a unique event that connects alumni, students and faculty for two days of learning, networking, making new connections and fun.
Register for J-School Generations games
Teams for trivia and other games are being assembled for the annual J-School Generations, set for Sept. 27-28 at Stauffer-Flint Hall. The games portion of the two-day event will be 9 a.m.-10:15 a.m. Sept. 28 in the Clarkson Gallery. Voice of the Jayhawks and J-School alumnus
Brian Hanni will provide play-by-play for the miniature basketball contest. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams to benefit the organizations they represent. J-School alumni will also join the students. Traditionally, the following groups have formed teams: The Ad Club, The Agency, J-School Ambassadors, KJHK, KUJH-TV, Media Crossroads, PRSSA Club, University Daily Kansan, UDK Advertising and independent. New flex rooms for students, faculty and staff
The J-School worked over the summer to increase the amount of collaborative spaces available in Stauffer-Flint Hall. Rooms 316, 210A, 109, and 305 are now available for students, faculty or staff to reserve for meetings, collaboration, discussion and study.

Students visit News-Press
Students from the University Daily Kansan, KUJH-TV and The Agency and several J-School faculty members visited the News-Press Now converged newsroom on Friday, Aug. 24. The group visited with the news and sales departments at the media group's headquarters in St. Joseph, Missouri. News-Press Now produces news content for the St. Joseph News-Press newspaper and three TV stations, NBC affiliate KNPG, Fox affiliate KNPN and CBS affiliate KCJO.

IMC students to work with
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, gave students in the Integrated Marketing Communications program's fall marketing research course a personal tour of the museum last week. Angie Hendershot's students will be conducting research for the organization, and the capstone group will be developing a strategic marketing plan for the museum, its traveling exhibits, and the 100th anniversary of the Negro Leagues.

NATAS Regional Emmy Gala seeks student volunteers
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is looking for college students to assist with this year's NATAS Regional Emmy Gala on Sept. 22 at the Kansas City Convention Center. The organization is looking for eight volunteers in the afternoon and eight in the evening, dressed in their "best for success" to help present the Emmy statuettes to th

Dallas Morning News to interview for summer 2019 internships
J-School alumna
Hannah Wise, engagement editor for The Dallas Morning News, will be on campus Oct. 2 to interview students for summer internships. Students in the Class of 2019 and 2020 should submit their resumes and work samples by Sept. 21 to

"William Allen White: What's the Matter with Kansas" movie
If you missed the premiere of "William Allen White: What's the Matter with Kansas" last semester during William Allen White Day, you have a few more chances to see it.
Sept. 12: The Wyandotte County Historical Society will sponsor a showing of the film at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Performing Arts Center at Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Avenue. The community college is a co-sponsor of the free event.
Kevin Willmott, a professor of film and media studies at KU who directed the 90-minute film,
will conduct a free workshop at 4 p.m. for aspiring independent filmmakers.
Sept. 14: Emporia Granada Theatre, 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased here.
Sept. 22: Liberty Hall, 2:30 p.m., Q&A with director Kevin Willmott after the screening. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased here.

Journalism panel discussion at Free State Festival
J-School instructor and Kansan general manager Rob Karwath is moderator of a panel discussion sponsored by the Lawrence Journal-World about issues facing journalism. The discussion, "Enemy of the People? Newspaper Reporting in the era of #FakeNews," is at noon on Sept. 22 at the Lawrence Public Library. Learn more here.
Party on the Patio with Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey
Josh Dawsey, White House reporter for the Washington Post and CNN analyst, is the guest speaker on Aug. 30 for Party on the Patio, the annual kick-off event for the Student Advisory Board
at the Dole Institute of Politics. J-School students are invited to this free event, which includes burgers and snow cones at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m.
Registration for Shadow Day
Nonprofit Connect is hosting Shadow Day 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City, Missouri. The event matches college students interested in the nonprofit sector with local nonprofit professionals for a day of learning and networking. This event allows undergraduate and graduate students to experience a workday in their desired profession and helps students develop a variety of connections in the nonprofit community.
