Principal's Message
September 7,  2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
One of the best things a principal gets to do is visit classrooms regularly and watch master teachers inspire students' learning. The staff at OLQP is impressive. Rules and routines are in place, and amazing things are happening! A common denominator across the campus is the school standard for students to express themselves clearly both orally and in writing. It may sound like something very basic, but these are skills that need to be developed and honed over time. In PreK, teachers prompt students to "use your words." As students get older, they have to use complete sentences, re-state the question in the answer, and defend their position using text and supporting evidence. Reasoning becomes more complex and, as vocabulary develops, expression becomes more precise. We live in a world that is constantly tempting our youth to disappear into their "devices." As teachers and families who want the best for students, we need to ensure that there are many opportunities, both formal and informal, to provide students with meaningful conversation and exchange of thoughts. During a lesson in second grade, one student's final thought after giving her answer to the teacher was, "I just wanted to put my ideas in the world!" Well said!
This year, service projects are focused on the Works of Mercy. In our world of plenty, it is hard for students to understand that many people do not have their basic needs met. When students are asked to participate in service projects, it is a way to make it real. It gives them an opportunity to pray for others in need. It provides an experience that puts their Faith into action by serving others. Presently, students are donating food items that will be shared with local food pantries in order to feed the hungry. We appreciate all the families who partner with us on the school's service projects. The learning that takes place and the blessings received by both those who give and those who receive are incalculable.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

OLQP Food Drive - August 27-September 14
We are taking up a collection here at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School to help the local area food pantries. We are asking the students to bring non-perishable food items to their homeroom classes for the next 2 weeks from Wednesday August 29, 2018 to Friday, September 14, 2018. This collection is in honor of Our Blessed Mother's Birthday on September 8 and our foundress, Sister Antoinette's birthday.

If you would like to donate, please send canned goods, dry pasta, or cereal boxes with your child to school. The items collected will be donated to local Food Pantries at the various Catholic churches.

We will need parents to deliver the food items on Friday, September 14th after school. Please consider volunteering. It is a great way to get your child involved in service, and teaches them the importance of helping others in need. If you can volunteer your time, please email [email protected] or [email protected].

Thank you in advance for your donation to help our communities and may God Bless you always.
