ANNOUNCEMENTS
Celebrating Pentecost Sunday at Good Shepherd!
This Sunday, May 20 the entire Good Shepherd Community will come together for ONE SERVICE at 9:30 am, immediately followed by our annual picnic.  Your hosts, the members of the GSEC Vestry, will be grilling up hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers and providing drinks.  Please bring a side dish/dessert to share.

This is a great occasion to invite a friend or neighbor to GSEC.  If your guest(s) cannot make it to church at 9:30, they are welcome to join us at 11 am for all the food and fun.  There will be karaoke, a cake walk and a fabulous door prize basket filled with summer-inspired items.  On this special day, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit! And just for fun, everyone is invited to wear something RED - if the the spirit so moves you!

Congratulations  Laura and Abe Denmark on the birth of their baby girl Julia Michael Denmark!

A Thank You Note from Susan Callahan:
Thank you to everyone who came on April 30th to Campus Kitchen's Third Bi-Annual Dining with the Chef's event.
We had more than 20 chefs and food businesses involved with this fundraiser.  The student team prepared 16 intricately prepared meals, we calculated about 5 pounds of food per person, including desserts! (we have heard the suggestion of Tupperware in the swag bags)  I want to always remind Good Shepherd that it was YOU who gave the seed money for this project. This service learning initiative has impacted hundreds of students with learning opportunities, leadership skills and chances to attend conferences on hunger in America. We have prepared more than 30,000 meals over the past 11 years. We have hosted education seminars for our families on healthy meals and professional development.  I have given away scholarship money to students from the funds we raise with DWTC. We have partnered with many non profits, such as Manna, Nourish Now and Community Food Rescue. This has all been possible with your single  donation of $1,000. Thank you. The event on April 30 raised $56,240!!! This funds us through 2 years of operations, gives money back to our partner agency The Dwelling Place ($5,000), and funds student development projects. Thank you once again. I hope to see you at DWTC 2020!

Saint Luke Food Pantry - Life may not be a picnic for the recipients of staples from Saint Luke Food Pantry, but the opportunity to alleviate the apprehension brought on by food insecurity can be a true blessing.  Let us bless and be blessed by our opportunity to include our neighbors in our weekly food shopping.  This might be a good week to focus on PB&J, tuna, chicken, fruit, stews, and pasta meals, but all nutritious staples are truly welcomed.

Wanted:  Good Shepherd "Gardening Angels"
Good Shepherd does not have a professional landscaping contract this year, so the job of keeping our beautiful grounds tended and welcoming is going to be up to all of us.  If you can pull weeds, handle a rake, or even just pick up litter we need you!  Come join our "Gardening Angels" from 7-8 PM on the 4th Tuesday evening of each month starting May 22.  It's satisfying work and a great opportunity for fellowship, learning, and sharing your knowledge of gardening.   In just one hour a month we can accomplish a lot!  Please bring your own gloves and favorite tools.  Contact Shaun Hardy (301-593-5187) for more information.

Sign up now for your family photo shoot for our new Good Shepherd photo directory. We have arranged for Lifetouch to be at Good Shepherd to shoot your photos from 2 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, June 18, Tuesday, June 19 and Wednesday, June 20. Photos will be taken in the Parish Hall.  Secure your time online at https://booknow-lifetouch.appointment-plus.com/yd16y662/
You will get a free 8 x10 and may purchase additional photos if you'd like. However, you are not obligated to buy any photos.
