President's Message
Call for Grant Submissions and Board of Director Nominations
Back to school! After a lovely and hopefully restful summer, we leap into fall and all things gain momentum, even in the rehab world. We have several dates quickly approaching to be aware of so mark your calendars, get your grant writing going, plan your rehab CE for 2019, and consider making an impact in your field by serving on the AARV board.
There are
four grants that are still up for grabs. Please note the following deadlines for submissions and dawdle no longer! See the
Grant Opportunities page on our website for more details.
- AARV-sponsored grant of $2,500 - present at VMX 2020 - deadline September 30th
- Purina-sponsored grant of $2,500 - present at VMX 2020 - deadline September 30th
- Student grant - free trip to VMX 2019 - sponsored by Royal Canin - deadline October 1st
- AARV-sponsored grant of $5,000 for non-traditional ACVSMR residents - present at VMX 2021 - deadline December 1st
We have
two past grant winners who will be presenting at
VMX 2019 during the AARV track on January 21st (save the date!). Follow in their footsteps and present your research to your peers. Dr. Theresa Pancotto's project (sponsored by the AARV),
Post-Operative Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation for Reduction of Stifle Edema in Canine Patients Undergoing TPLO, will be presented as will Dr. Jennifer Repac's. Dr. Repac's grant was sponsored by
Dr. Buzby's Toe Grips and is titled
Effect of Dr. Buzby's Toe Grips on Lameness Scores and Client Specific Outcome Measures After Canine TPLO.
In other news, the AARV board of directors thanks you for your votes and is excited to announce that
Dr. Theresa Pancotto will be the AARV Legislative Liaison starting in January 2019. We are all very excited to work with Dr. Pancotto.
There are openings for several other positions that will start in 2019 so
send in your nominations. Nominations for Treasurer, Membership Chair and Technician Liaison will now all be due by October 1st and will be voted on by the entire membership. The position of PT Liaison will also be due by October 1st and will be voted on by the board. Feel free to contact
current board members to learn more about their duties.
As always, please contact the AARV board if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.
Regards,
Megan Ridley, DVM, CVA, CCRT, CVSMT

Attaining this recognition is truly a high honor, joining a growing group of like-minded individuals as a Veterinary Technician Specialist. The APRVT is so proud of everyone and their accomplishments, and we cannot wait to see what everyone achieves in their journey.
An Academy designates veterinary technicians receiving recognition as a specialty and is restricted to credentialed veterinary technicians, who must complete a formal process of education, training, experience and testing to qualify. The APRVT would like to extend a tremendous THANK YOU for the hospitality of the Oquendo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, for making the examination process and hosting absolutely seamless. The attendees were treated to pre-game stress relieving video games. We are in this wonderful journey together in veterinary medicine, and the generous support from industry leaders really helps make veterinary technicians feel appreciated.
