 February 24, 2020

      Things are going really well for our COM programs. We are still quite full; our children are happy and learning and developing a variety of new skills. We had the pleasure of being included in the JOY Fellowship Christmas dinner and have gotten some great ideas from them to set up some more opportunities for our students. I cannot believe that our school year is already to the point where we are taking registrations for the summer programs! Registration for the 2020 summer programs is open to the church and our existing children now through March 3rd, when it will open up to the public. We don't anticipate having a lot of open spaces in the nursery to 3-year-old range, so if you or someone you know is needing care, please let them know to register ASAP. Our first year housing a collaborative public pre-k program with the county has gone very smoothly, and our classroom received excellent feedback from the state pre-K auditing team. We are very happy, proud, and blessed to be a part of their program.
     As always, we would love to have you share any of your talents or gifts with us. If you have a skill that we could incorporate into our classrooms please give the office a call or stop by, and we will find a place to fit you in. I truly think you will have a wonderful experience interacting with our students. Thank you for all the support you offer to us.

Ash Wednesday: February 26
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter. We will begin our journey with 7:00 p.m. worship, including the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion. Wednesday Night Live small groups and programs will not meet on Ash Wednesday.

General Conference Presentation
Saturday, February 29, 1:30 p.m.
You are invited to Christ Church United Methodist (1221 Quarrier St., Charleston) for a presentation by our General Conference delegates. This will not be an open forum session. The primary purpose will be for the delegates to provide clear information to attendees about:
  • The function of General Conference and the processes involved;
  • The role of a General Conference delegate;
  • The various restructuring proposals to be considered at General Conference.
The United Methodist Church General Conference 2020 will be held May 5-15, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Stewards of Fellowship Spaghetti Dinner
Sunday, March 1, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Featured again will be John Marra's famous Italian flare of family handed-down spaghetti sauce, meatball, and salad dressing recipes. Along with the main meal, come enjoy fresh, delicious Italian garlic bread from a Clarksburg Italian bakery and a traditional Italian dessert of spumoni ice cream. Also, you can try Oliverio's Italian Restaurant of Bridgeport's own "dipping oil" delight. Meals are $12 for adults, $6 for children, and no immediate family pays more than $30 total. All proceeds support Uth mission trips.

He Leadeth Me Forms
Please return your 2020 "He Leadeth Me" stewardship form to the church office or to the tray at the back of the sanctuary so that we can compile updated volunteer lists for our leaders. Forms were in the 1/26 and 2/2 bulletins. Extra forms are at the Connection Center, or click here to download the form.

PipeSounds Presents...
The PipeSounds Organ Series Presents Silent Movie Night! Join us on Friday, March 13, at 7:00 p.m., as David Briggs returns to the Harrah Symphonic Organ to accompany the 1925 silent film "Seven Chances", starring Buster Keaton. "Struggling stockbroker Jimmie Shannon (Buster Keaton) learns that if he gets married by 7 p.m. on his 27th birthday - which is today - he'll inherit $7 million from an eccentric relative. He has only hours to find a woman who'll marry him!" Invite your friends to this popular event, which promises to be an entertaining evening. Admission: $10, students free.

UMW Spring Crafts & Book Festival
Applications for the UMW Spring Crafts & Book Festival are available at the Connection Center, or click here to download the application. This year's festival is on Saturday, April 4. Save the date for the Egg Factory! All hands on deck for making our chocolate eggs, March 30-April 2.

Discover Your Shoebox Destination
A large world map has been placed behind the Connection Center. Those who paid online for shipping should receive an email indicating the country where their box was delivered. Place a shoebox sticker on the map so that we can see where our boxes have been delivered. Some have gone to "Closed/Undisclosed/Hard to Reach" countries where the Gospel cannot be openly shared. There's a place on the map for these boxes, too. Keep in mind, you may not receive an email for some time as boxes can take months to arrive. Remember to pray for safe delivery of boxes as they make their way by all means of transportation. Pray for those who bring the message of Good News and for the children to have ears to hear and an open heart to receive.
      Operation Christmas Child Year Round: For the month of February, we are collecting accessories (jewelry, hair items, hats, sunglasses, etc.) for our OCC shoeboxes. A donation box for these items is located in the front office. Also, we are sewing for OCC the first Tuesday of each month , 9:30-11:30 a.m., in Byrd Hall. Join us on March 3rd!

Luggage Donations
If you are getting rid of any kind of luggage, please clean it up and drop it off in the church office. One of our volunteers has offered to collect unused luggage for foster children through a UMC organization in Beckley. Foster kids are often asked to transport their belongings from place to place in a trash bag. Donations of luggage for these children are welcome for helping them move on with dignity.
