Legislative Update
CMCI has a special alert for all CCMs regarding
Louisiana House Bill 748, which is the hot topic of debate in Louisiana. If the bill becomes law, it would prohibit anyone in Louisiana from identifying themselves as "certified" or using the term "certification" to refer to any professional credentials that are not given by a government agency, including the Certified Construction Manager designation. CMCI believes that qualified CCMs are critical to the success of capital construction projects and is following the debate closely. We are encouraged that many other organizations from across a wide range of industries are joining with us to register concerns about this proposed bill, and the Louisiana Senate is considering an edited version of the bill that addresses the concerns.

2018 CCM of the Year Award Nominations
CMCI is looking for CCMs who demonstrate the highest professional standards for the 2018 Mehdi Heydari Culture of Certification Award. This year's recipient will be honored at the National Conference & Trade Show in Las Vegas, October 14-16.
Specific criteria for the award includes the scope of experience, exceptional customer service skills, community involvement, and contributions to the CM profession.
If you, a colleague, or an associate meet the criteria, you are encouraged to submit a nomination no late than June 20, 2018.

CM Compensation Survey
CMAA will be conducting a confidential CM Compensation Survey to determine the median or average compensation paid to construction managers using various job titles. This a brief survey that should not take more than 10 minutes to complete and the results will be used to tabulate salary trends in the CM industry. All participants will also receive a free summary of the results. Please be on the lookout for the survey from our partner, Readex Research.

CCM Champion Spotlight: Eric Hammerschmidt
Congratulations to Eric Hammerschmidt, Director at Markon Solutions, on being honored as one of the Mid-Atlantic Top Young Professionals of 2018 by ENR Magazine. According to ENR, this honor "highlights young professionals who have built extraordinary industry portfolios in just a few short years."
Hammerschmidt became a CCM in 2013 and a CCM Champion in 2016. As a CCM Champion, he exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism in the CM industry and helps raise awareness of the benefits of earning and maintaining the CCM.
"The CCM credential establishes the highest benchmark of knowledge, quality, and professionalism in the construction management industry. Achieving this professional milestone has been key to gaining leadership experience that in turn allows me to share my enthusiasm and expertise with others,"

Volunteer Instructors Needed

CMAA provides the course presentation and materials and the instructors provide the real-world examples and guidance. Assistant Director, Construction Management

The Construction Management Division has responsibility for providing construction project management, inspection, and material testing for the Port divisions, tenants, governmental agencies and utility companies so they can receive quality inspections, and construction projects completed on time and within budget. The Port of Long Beach has established a salary range of $157,000 to $160,000. Placement within the salary range is based on qualifications.
