Late last year Maccabi All Abilities trialed an exciting new program – The Buddy Program !!
The Buddy Program aims to connect individuals within the All Abilities community with a buddy from the wider Maccabi community. The pair catch up for two hours fortnightly and participate in a sport or recreational activity they are interested in. This year we are hoping to expand the program.
That means we need more buddies! We are calling on the Maccabi Community to get involved in this great initiative.
This program is a remarkable way to have a positive impact on someone and just have a great time. As previous program buddies explain, it was an
“amazing program”
and the
“best part of my week, highly recommend getting involved!!
If you are interested in getting involved, register your interest to be a buddy
here
.
Please also find attached a position description which provides more information on the program and what being a buddy entails

Maccabi national championship 2020
The annual premier event on the calendar was held at the Mornington peninsula.
It was well attended with many representatives from NSW as well as a warm welcome to two female competitors crossing the Nullabor to attend.
We were blessed with ideal golf conditions on all 3 days.
The first day we were at The National playing the Moonah course which is always challenging and in superb condition.
Scores with solid without being outstanding with the exception being a stunning 73 of the stick by Giora Friede to put what was to be an insurmountable lead in the stroke competition
The stableford competitors were tightly bunched at the top.
The Dunes was the venue on the second day and was enjoyed by all and the competition in all divisions was set up for an exciting finale.
Rosebud was set up in pristine condition and the pins were in challenging positions with many competitors left puzzled by the often severe slopes to overcome to get their putts to the hole .
In the women’s division the runaway winner was Janet stuk ahead of Fay Swart and Tracy Silbert.
The finish in all the men’s categories was was gripping.
Michel Aisenberg after a hiatus returned to triumph in. C grade with a total of 97 from Michael Burd.
B grade was won by Peter Janovic by 1 shot from Steven Wagen with a total of 101.
A grade was won by Giora. Friede on 100 from David Fajnkind by a single shot.
In the overall national championship not even a shot separated first from second.
After a sluggish start Colin Goldman stormed home with two great rounds to finish on 101 to win on a count back from Peter Janovic to take the title.

Maccabi FC Walking Football play at AAMI Park
Sunday 1 March saw a first ever for Walking Football Maccabi FC when 10 members and 3 staff strutted their stuff at AAMI Park under lights in front of over 7,500 fans.
To be fair the fans where there to see the Melbourne City FC v Brisbane Roar game but at half time the Maccabi FC Walking Footballers entertained the surprised crowd with the orange team scoring 3 goals against the green teams one.
Each goal scored was cheered on the by the crowd to the delight of the team members who left the ground after play with broad smiles across their faces.

Maccabi Memorabilia
“Recently Maccabi Victoria has been undertaking an extensive cataloging of all of its archival material – uniforms, badges, pennants, Carnival and Maccabiah programs, yearbooks, historical papers and other material. We are aware that many of you in the Maccabi community also have, in your own storage, valuable archival material which might be of great value to us, especially as we have a broad agreement with the Jewish Museum for a “Jews in Sport” Exhibition in a few years.
However, we first need information from you so we can gauge the value of what you have and whether we might be able to make use of it.
To that end, we ask you to
click
here
to complete an online form at your convenience. If we then are keen to acquire what you have, we will then be in touch. Please do
NOT
bring any items to the Maccabi Office until we have assessed the suitability of your donation.
Many thanks for your assistance.
